ESTIMATION OF MICROFIBRIL ANGLE OF INCREMENT CORES BY NEAR INFRARED SPECTROSCOPY

IAWA Journal, 2002
Eight Pinus radiata D. Don (Radiata pine) increment core samples representative of a total of thirty-two increment cores were selected. NIR spectra were obtained from the radial–longitudinal face of each core in 10-mm increments and used to develop a microfibril angle (MFA) calibration.

Effect of Physiological Age and Site on Microfibril Angle in Pinus Radiata

IAWA Journal, 1996
The effect of physiological age (shoot age at propagation) and site on microfibril angle was examined for seedlings (physiological age = 0 years) and cuttings (physiological age = 5-16 years) of Pinus radiata D. Don. Two trials were examined by measuring microfibril angle in alternate growth rings on breast height discs.

Small-Angle and Wide-Angle X-ray Analyses of Syndiotactic Poly(vinyl alcohol) Microfibrils

Macromolecules, 2001
The crystal and microstructures of the novel microfibrillar poly(vinyl alcohol) fibers (PVA fibrils) having different syndiotactic diad (S-diad) contents of 56−65% have been investigated by small- and wide-angle X-ray methods. The PVA fibrils were directly prepared from the saponification and in-situ fibrillation without spinning procedure. Small-angle

Microfibril dimensions from small-angle X-ray scattering

Journal of Applied Crystallography, 1979
Model calculation based on parallel cylindrical fibrils with a distribution of radii are used to derive fibrillar radii obtained from the transverse intensity profile of the small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) peaks. The results are expressed in terms of moments of the distribution function of the radii.

Hygromechanical deformation of wood cell walls regulated by the microfibril angle

Journal of Materials Chemistry A
Microfibril angle regulates wood cell wall deformation by influencing moisture diffusion, while hydrogen bonding competition between CNFs and hemicellulose directs water movement.

The influence of microfibril angle on the longitudinal shrinkage-moisture content relationship

Wood Science and Technology, 1972
Incremental longitudinal shrinkage has been measured on 44 samples of Pinus radiata at each 5% increment of moisture content from 0 to 25%. The samples range in mean microfibril angle from 10° to 40°. The data is presented in the form of a family of curves, of incremental shrinkage against microfibril angle, for each moisture content.

[Comparison of four kinds of measurement techniques for wood microfibril angle].

Guang pu xue yu guang pu fen xi = Guang pu, 2010
X-ray diffraction technique, pit aperture observing technique, polarized light microscope technique and near infrared spectrum technique were used separately to test the wood microfibril angle of Chinese fir, and the results were as follows: For the identical tree of Chinese fir, the average microfibril angle obtained by the polarized light microscope ...
