In this study we show for the first time that the human basilar membrane contains elastin produced by the so‐called tympanic covering layer. It is believed to play an important functional role in human cochlear tuning, particularly low frequencies linked to our remarkable speech and music perception.

Solid‐state NMR combined with principal component analysis enables quantitative classification of fungal α‐ and β‐glucan architectures in intact cell walls, revealing conserved triple‐helical β‐1,3‐glucan conformations across species and predominantly bundled‐sheet α‐1,3‐glucan assemblies with condition‐dependent polymorphism. Statistical clustering of

Temporal variation of microfibril angle in Eucalyptus nitens grown in different irrigation regimes [PDF]
In 1990, a 2-ha plantation of Eucalyptus nitens (Deane and Maiden) Maiden was established in southeastern Tasmania and subjected to different irrigation regimes. Point dendrometers were installed in March 1995 to monitor radial stem movement every 15 min over several growing seasons.

Microfibrillar composite containing highly oriented, plasma‐treated PA6 microfibrils embedded within the polymer matrix. ABSTRACT Plasma treatment is often used to alter chemical surface characteristics of fibers or polymers, improving dispersion of components and interfacial adhesion between incompatible constituents in composites.

MODULUS OF ELASTICITY AND HARDNESS OF COMPRESSION AND OPPOSITE WOOD CELL WALLS OF MASSON PINE
Compression wood is commonly found in Masson pine. To evaluate the mechanical properties of the cell wall of Masson pine compression and opposite wood, nanoindentation was used. The results showed that the average values of hardness and cell wall modulus

Schematic representation of the processing and multiscale characterization of nanocellulose films from different botanical sources. ABSTRACT Although the influence of botanical origin on nanocellulose properties is well recognized, an integrated multiscale framework linking chemical composition, fractal surface descriptors, and nanomechanical behavior ...

Variation of Microfibril Angle Within Individual Tracheids
Utilizing the orientation of soft-rot cavities, microfibril angles were measured in individual tracheids (pulped fibers) and thin sections of southern pine in order to determine the extent of variation.
