An effective palynological preparation procedure using hydrogen peroxide [PDF]
Most pre-Quaternary palynology samples are currently prepared by demineralization of the sediment/sedimentary rock matrix using hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acids (HCl and HF respectively).

Sedimentation and subsidence history of the Lomonosov Ridge [PDF]
During the first scientific ocean drilling expedition to the Arctic Ocean (Arctic Coring Expedition [ACEX]; Integrated Ocean Drilling Program Expedition 302), four sites were drilled and cored atop the central part of the Lomonosov Ridge in the Arctic ...

Microbialites are organo-sedimentary rocks found in abundance throughout the geological record back to ~3.5 Ga. Interpretations of the biological and environmental conditions under which they formed rely on comparisons with modern microbialites ...

Late Glacial vegetation, sedimentation and ice recession chronology in the surroundings of Lake Prossa, central Estonia [PDF]
Pollen records from Lake Prossa, located in the Saadjärv Drumlin Field, indicate rather homogeneous pollen spectra in the pre-Allerød period and a thick sediment sequence suggesting high input of mineral matter and erosion.

New Brittle Stars (Echinodermata, Ophiuroidea) from the Oligocene of the Mainz Basin, Germany
The fossil record of the Ophiuroidea is still patchy, especially in the Cenozoic. Only four species have been described from the entire Oligocene, which is in stark contrast to the present-day diversity counting more than 2000 species.

Morphological Biosignatures in Volcanic Rocks – Applications for Life Detection on Mars
The exploration of Mars is largely based on comparisons with Earth analog environments and processes. The up-coming NASA Mars mission 2020 and ExoMars 2020 has the explicit aim to search for signs of life on Mars.

Sub‐Micrometer‐Precision Path Following of Piezo‐Actuated Mobile Robot
This article reports on the Holonomic‐Beetle (HB), a palm‐sized robot that achieves sub‐micrometer (sub‐µm) precision path tracking across spatial ranges from 100 µm to 10 mm. Using proportional‐integral‐derivative (PID) control, the HB accurately tracks both complex and straight paths with sub‐µm path errors, surpassing existing robots.

Abstract The study of morphological evolution is fundamentally tied to ontogeny, yet studies of these heterochronic processes in the fossil record are rare. Fossils belonging to an ontogenetic series are difficult to assign to an ontogenetic stage due to inconsistent proxies for skeletal ages, challenging to taxonomically assign due to morphological ...
