Equilibrium properties of charged microgels: a Poisson-Boltzmann-Flory approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The equilibrium properties of ionic microgels are investigated using a combination of the Poisson-Boltzmann and Flory theories. Swelling behavior, density profiles, and effective charges are all calculated in a self-consistent way.

Rheological properties of aging thermosensitive suspensions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Aging observed in soft glassy materials inherently affects the rheological properties of these systems and has been described by the soft glassy rheology (SGR) model [S. M. Fielding et al., J. Rheol. 44, 323 (2000)]. In this paper, we report the measured

Overcharging and reentrant condensation of thermoresponsive ionic microgels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We investigated the complexation of thermoresponsive anionic poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNiPAM) microgels and cationic $\epsilon$-polylysine ($\epsilon$-PLL) chains. By combining electrophoresis, light scattering, transmission electron microscopy (TEM)

Ocean warming-acidification synergism undermines dissolved organic matter assembly. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Understanding the influence of synergisms on natural processes is a critical step toward determining the full-extent of anthropogenic stressors. As carbon emissions continue unabated, two major stressors--warming and acidification--threaten marine ...

Characterization of different substituted carboxymethyl starch microgels and their interactions with lysozyme. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
A carboxymethyl starch (CMS) microgel system was prepared for the control of uptaking and releasing proteins (lysozyme). The physicochemical properties of microgels in various degrees of substitution (DS) were determined by thermal gravimetric analysis ...

UV-assisted punching of microgel shapes for oral biomacromolecule delivery

open access: yesMicro and Nano Engineering, 2023
Hydrogel based carriers have been predominantly investigated to combat the prominent challenges faced by oral biomacromolecule delivery. Several micromolding, microfluidic and photolithographic techniques have been described for the fabrication of non ...

Evidence of a low-temperature dynamical transition in concentrated microgels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A low-temperature dynamical transition has been reported in several proteins. We provide the first observation of a `protein-like' dynamical transition in nonbiological aqueous environments.

Complexation of DNA with Thermoresponsive Charged Microgels: Role of Swelling State and Electrostatics

open access: yesGels, 2022
Micro- and nanogels are being increasingly used to encapsulate bioactive compounds. Their soft structure allows large loading capacity while their stimuli responsiveness makes them extremely versatile.

Thermodynamics of ionic microgels [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2002
We present a theory of dilute aqueous suspensions of microgel particles. It is found that as the number of charged monomers in the polymer network composing mesoscopic gel increases, the particles undergo a swelling transition. Depending on the hydrophobicity of the polymer, this transition can be either continuous or discontinuous.

Interplay of the Influence of Crosslinker Content and Model Drugs on the Phase Transition of Thermoresponsive PNiPAM-BIS Microgels

open access: yesGels, 2022
The phase transition behavior of differently crosslinked poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)/N,N’-methylenebisacrylamide (PNiPAM/BIS) microgels with varying crosslinker content is investigated in presence of aromatic additives.
