Microfluidic Fabrication and Applications of Microgels and Hybrid Microgels

Critical Reviews in Analytical Chemistry, 2023
Smart microgels have gained much attention because of their wide range of applications in the field of biomedical, environmental, nanotechnological and catalysis sciences. Most of the applications of microgels are strongly affected by their morphology, size and size distribution.

Methacrylic acid based microgels and hybrid microgels

Reviews in Chemical Engineering, 2022
Abstract Methacrylic acid based microgels have got much consideration in the last two decades because of their potential uses in different fields owing to their responsive behaviour towards external stimuli. Synthesis, properties and uses of methacrylic acid based microgels and their hybrids have been critically reviewed in this article.

Responsive microgels and microgel assemblies in biocatalytic applications

Journal of Polymer Science, 2023
AbstractMicrogels are soft particles that offer excellent colloidal stability, large surface area, and fluid‐like transport characteristics, making them ideal for enzyme immobilization and reaction regulation. In recent years, the use of microgels in enzyme processes has rapidly increased and reviewed.

Impact of Microgel Morphology on Functionalized Microgel−Drug Interactions

Langmuir, 2008
The interactions of a range of water-soluble drugs of different charges and hydrophobicities with carboxylic acid-functionalized poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)-based microgels containing different functional group distributions are investigated to determine the impact of drug properties and microgel morphologies on drug uptake and release.

Microfiltration of deformable microgels

Soft Matter, 2016
Understanding the separation, concentration and purification processes of soft nanoparticles is essential for numerous applications in water filtration, bioprocessing and blood separation. Here we report unique translocation and rejection features of sub-micron sized microgels during frontal filtration using membranes having micron-sized porosity ...

Microgels 4: The preparation of novel microgels and their applications

Die Angewandte Makromolekulare Chemie, 1996
AbstractThis paper describes studies on the formation of microgels from high functionality mixtures of monomers which are able to polymerise by a step‐growth process to polyurethanes in the specially selected solvent butan‐2‐one. Using the reactants poly(ethylene glycol) 6000, 1,2,6‐hexanetriol and biscyclohexylmethane‐4,4′‐diisocyanate in formulations

Flower type microgels: 1. Synthesis of the microgels

Polymer, 1997
Poly(2-vinyl pyridine-b-styrene-b-2-vinyl pyridine) BAB type block copolymers were synthesized by anionic living polymerization. The micelle formation of these BAB type triblock copolymers was carried out in toluene and toluene/cyclohexane mixture, and estimated with dynamic light scattering for the polymer solutions.

Marine Microgels

Annual Review of Marine Science, 2012
The ocean plays a critical role in global carbon cycling: it handles half of the global primary production, yielding the world's largest stock of reduced organic carbon (ROC) that supports one of the world's largest biomasses. However, the mechanisms whereby ROC becomes mineralized remain unresolved.

Polymer dynamics in responsive microgels: influence of cononsolvency and microgel architecture

Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, 2012
The dynamics of polymers on the nm and ns scales inside responsive microgels was probed by means of Neutron Spin Echo (NSE) experiments. Four different microgels were studied: poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) and poly(N,N-diethylacrylamide) (PDEAAM) microgels, a P(NIPAM-co-DEAAM) copolymer microgel and a core-shell microgel with a PDEAAM core and a

Microgel‐Stabilized Metal Nanoclusters: Size Control by Microgel Nanomorphology

Advanced Materials, 2003
Soluble crosslinked macromolecules (microgels) used as stabilizers of catalytically active metal nanoclusters allow control of the nanocluster size by simply changing the crosslinking degree of the microgel. Microgel‐stabilized metal nanoclusters are easily prepared and stored in the solid state, and those of Pd (see Figure) exhibit high catalytic ...
