Influence of Inverter-Based Resources on Microgrid Protection: Part 2: Secondary Networks and Microgrid Protection

open access: yesIEEE Power and Energy Magazine, 2021
Secondary networks are deployed when exceptionally high-reliability electric service is required for specific loads. Secondary network protection makes extensive use of the fact that the available fault currents in such systems are typically very high ...

Adaptive Hybrid Energy Harvester Integrating PV, TEG, and Piezoelectric Sources With Real‐Time Power Management and Experimental Validation

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
An adaptive hybrid energy harvester combining photovoltaic, thermoelectric, and piezoelectric sources is experimentally demonstrated. Real‐time power management dynamically allocates and conditions multisource inputs, achieving improved robustness and efficiency under variable environmental conditions compared with single‐source harvesting.

Smart microgrids and virtual power plants in a hierarchical control structure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In order to achieve a coordinated integration of distributed energy resources in the electrical network, an aggregation of these resources is required. Microgrids and virtual power plants (VPPs) address this issue.

Robust Control Using a Matrix Converter to Enhance Wind Turbine Systems

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
This study uses a more efficient and effective solution to improve the operational performance of a wind turbine‐based power system. This system uses a doubly fed induction generator and relies on a matrix converter and fractional‐order proportional–integral controller.

A decentralized scalable approach to voltage control of DC islanded microgrids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We propose a new decentralized control scheme for DC Islanded microGrids (ImGs) composed by several Distributed Generation Units (DGUs) with a general interconnection topology. Each local controller regulates to a reference value the voltage of the Point

Disturbance‐Resilient Voltage/Power‐Quality Management for Islanded Inverters Using Self‐Tuning Type‐3 Fuzzy Controller

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
An adaptive fuzzy controller using an interval type‐3 fuzzy logic system replaces the SMC switching term to mitigate chattering while preserving global stability for islanded inverters. Simulations show lower THD, greater robustness to disturbances and parameter variations, and improved voltage‐tracking accuracy, with applicability to other uncertain ...
