Robust Control Using a Matrix Converter to Enhance Wind Turbine Systems

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, Volume 14, Issue 6, Page 2785-2815, June 2026.
This study uses a more efficient and effective solution to improve the operational performance of a wind turbine‐based power system. This system uses a doubly fed induction generator and relies on a matrix converter and fractional‐order proportional–integral controller.

Disturbance‐Resilient Voltage/Power‐Quality Management for Islanded Inverters Using Self‐Tuning Type‐3 Fuzzy Controller

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, Volume 14, Issue 6, Page 2816-2838, June 2026.
An adaptive fuzzy controller using an interval type‐3 fuzzy logic system replaces the SMC switching term to mitigate chattering while preserving global stability for islanded inverters. Simulations show lower THD, greater robustness to disturbances and parameter variations, and improved voltage‐tracking accuracy, with applicability to other uncertain ...

AI‐Driven Optimization of a Hybrid PV–Wind–BESS Microgrid for a Rural Educational Institution in Developing Countries

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, Volume 14, Issue 6, Page 2839-2873, June 2026.
An AI‐driven CNN–LSTM forecasting framework is integrated with HOMER Pro to optimally design a grid‐connected PV–wind–BESS microgrid for a rural school in Bangladesh, achieving 91.7% renewable penetration, low energy cost (0.0397 USD/kWh), and an 81.5% reduction in CO2 emissions. ABSTRACT Hybrid renewable microgrid planning in HOMER Pro often relies on

Hydrogen Energy Research in Italy in the Bioeconomy Era

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, Volume 14, Issue 6, Page 2692-2703, June 2026.
Image shows nearly completed NEOM solar hydrogen and green ammonia plant in Saudi Arabia. Solar (“green”) hydrogen is produced using alkaline water electrolyzers produced in Italy. ABSTRACT In 2026, the nearly concomitant launch of the world's first H2‐powered ship in Ancona, the completion of the first green H2 pipeline to refuel some 100 hydrogen ...

High‐Barrier Amorphous Al2O3 Film Deposited via Magnetic Field‐Confined for Ultrastable Hygroscopic Scintillators

open access: yesSmartMat, Volume 7, Issue 3, June 2026.
The moisture‐induced degradation of hygroscopic scintillators limits their performance and lifespan in radiation detection. A 100 nm amorphous Al2O3 film, deposited at room temperature via FCVA with pulsed magnetic field confinement, offers high optical transmittance and ultralow moisture permeability.

Interconnection, Obligation, Solar Power, and the Remaking of Energy Citizens on and off the Grid in California

open access: yesAmerican Anthropologist, Volume 128, Issue 2, Page 359-368, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Electricity grid infrastructures shape future publics and the contours of political belonging or exclusion, including citizenship. But in fire‐prone, more precariously grid‐connected regions in California, experiments with micro‐ and home nanogrids, subsidized by the state and built in many cases with Tesla products, provide new opportunities ...
