Microhabitat and niche separation in species ofCeratiomyxa
Mycologia, 2008The eumycetozoan genus Ceratiomyxa appears to have a cosmopolitan distribution, although two of the three macroscopic species within the genus have been reported only from tropical regions of the world. In theory these two tropical species might be expected to display more narrow niches than their cosmopolitan counterpart due to their specialization ...

Bacteria and protozoa in soil microhabitats as affected by earthworms
Biology and Fertility of Soils, 1997The effects of incorporation of elm leaves (Ulmus glabra) into an agricultural sandy loam soil by earthworms (Lumbricus festivus) on the bacterial and protozoan populations were investigated. Three model systems consisting of soil, soil with leaves, and soil with leaves and earthworms, respectively, were compared.

Microhabitat selection in two Chilean cricetid rodents
Oecologia, 1982A discriminant analysis on vegetational variables was performed in order to determine differences in habitat utilization by two sympatric Chilean rodents. Akodon olivaceus brachiotis is associated with vegetational variables that provide greater cover from above.

Seasonality and microhabitat selection in a forest-dwelling salamander
The Science of Nature, 2017Many small terrestrial vertebrates exhibit limited spatial movement and are considerably exposed to changes in local environmental variables. Among such vertebrates, amphibians at present experience a dramatic decline due to their limited resilience to environmental change.

Microhabitats of a Terrestrial Forest Salamander
Copeia, 1980The above-ground density of Plethodon cinereus did not vary over 22 sampling days during spring and summer, even during seven-day periods without rain. Surface density was not correlated with amount of rainfall, but microhabitat choice was so correlated: the percentage of salamanders under rocks and logs increased and the percentage in the leaf litter ...

Microhabitats reduce animal's exposure to climate extremes
Global Change Biology, 2013AbstractExtreme weather events, such as unusually hot or dry conditions, can cause death by exceeding physiological limits, and so cause loss of population. Survival will depend on whether or not susceptible organisms can find refuges that buffer extreme conditions.

Zoological microhabitats of Vibrio cholerae
1996Despite considerable research, the routes of transmission and the basis for the seasonal and pandemic cycles of cholera have not been explained. Those areas of the world where clinical cholera cases appear without apparent importation on a regular seasonal basis are endemic foci for cholera.

The microhabitat methodology: protocoles for application
