A New Taxonomic Placement of Cochylis discerta (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) to Falseuncaria Supported by Congruent Mitogenomic and Morphological Evidence. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
By integrating comprehensive mitogenomic sequencing with detailed morphological examinations, we demonstrate a strong case for transferring Cochylis discerta from its current genus to Falseuncaria. Four complete mitogenomes of Cochylini species are sequenced and analyzed for the first time here.

Ecological convergence in phytochemistry and flower-insect visitor interactions along an Andean elevation gradient. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol, 2023
In this study, we detected patterns of ecological convergence along elevation in floral volatiles as well as cost–benefit ratio in seed versus pollinated seeds. Our results suggest that these evolutionary patterns are the result of biotic and abiotic pressures.

Predicting Potential Range Shifts and Molecular Approaches in Four Diolcogaster Ashmead Species (Hymenoptera: Braconidae, Microgastrinae). [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
We modeled the global distributions of four Diolcogaster wasp species using MaxEnt and evaluated their ecological niches, phylogenetic relationships, and haplotype diversity. All species showed strong model performance, with D. claritibia exhibiting the broadest and most suitable habitats.

Genetic diversity assessment of Helichrysum arenarium (Asteraceae) for the genetic restoration of declining populations. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Helichrysum arenarium (Asteraceae) is a self‐compatible, insect‐pollinated herb from sand grasslands, and is declining and (critically) endangered in Europe. Genetic assessment using microsatellite markers of the only small remaining population in Belgium and of three large German populations revealed high clonality, with only two, however heterozygous,

Klimeschia transversella (Zeller, 1839), a new species for Bulgaria (Insecta: Lepidoptera: Douglasiidae)

open access: yesHistoria Naturalis Bulgarica, 2022
Klimeschia transversella (Zeller, 1839) is reported for the first time from Bulgaria. The species was found on Thymus plants in Vinarovo Village, Vidin Province, Northwestern Bulgaria. Moths and female genitalia are illustrated.

Lepidoptera research in Puerto Rico: Reconnecting with historical legacies to guide future priorities

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 55, Issue 6, Page 1215-1232, November 2023., 2023
In Puerto Rico, a tropical archipelago in a region characterized by complex socio‐economic and environmental change, ecological knowledge of the local insect fauna is scarce. Greater emphasis on ecological monitoring of model insect groups like Lepidoptera could provide insight into the effects of global change on tropical biodiversity and contribute ...

Molecular phylogeny, divergence time, biogeography and trends in host plant usage in the agriculturally important tortricid tribe Grapholitini (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae: Olethreutinae)

open access: yesCladistics, Volume 39, Issue 5, Page 359-381, October 2023., 2023
Abstract The leaf‐roller moth tribe Grapholitini comprises about 1200 described species and contains numerous notorious pests of fruits and seeds. The phylogeny of the tribe has been little studied using contemporary methods, and the monophyly of several genera remains questionable. In order to provide a more robust phylogenetic framework for the group,

Description of immature stages and natural history of Stigmella schinivora (Lepidoptera: Nepticulidae), a leaf-miner associated with the Brazilian peppertree

open access: yesZoologia (Curitiba), 2018
Stigmella schinivora van Nieukerken, 2016 was described from Cataratas de Iguazú, Misiones, Argentina, based on adults reared from Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi (Anacardiaceae) leaf mines.

Nearctic \u3ci\u3eAcleris\u3c/i\u3e: Resurrection of \u3ci\u3eA. Stadiana\u3c/i\u3e and a Revised Identity for \u3ci\u3eA. Semiannula\u3c/i\u3e (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Type study showed that Acleris stadiana (Barnes & Busck), currently considered a junior synonym of A. semiannula (Robinson), is in fact a distinct taxon. Although superficially similar, these taxa differ markedly in genital structure.
