Trait‐mediated responses of caterpillar communities to spongy moth outbreaks and subsequent tebufenozide treatments

open access: yesEcological Applications, Volume 33, Issue 6, September 2023., 2023
Abstract Outbreaks of the spongy moth Lymantria dispar can have devastating impacts on forest resources and ecosystems. Lepidoptera‐specific insecticides, such as Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki (BTK) and tebufenozide, are often deployed to prevent heavy defoliation of the forest canopy.

Interactions between large‐scale and local factors influence seed predation rates and seed loss

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 13, Issue 6, June 2023., 2023
Herbivores often have highly variable impacts on plant fecundity. We examined how density‐dependent seed predation at local scales and regional differences in community productivity are associated with variation in the magnitude of pre‐dispersal seed predation on Monarda fistulosa. Our findings show how large‐scale factors can interact with local‐scale

Depicting environmental gradients from Malaise trap samples: Is ethanol‐based DNA metabarcoding enough?

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, Volume 16, Issue 1, Page 47-64, January 2023., 2023
We conducted metabarcoding on tissue‐based DNA and on ethanol‐based DNA of the same Malaise trap samples. Then, we compared results in regard to the representation of environmental gradients. The tissue‐based DNA depicted clear environmental gradients.
