Magnetic analysis of individual iron oxide grains; application of Micromagnetic Tomography to a natural sample.

2023
The magnetic information stored in volcanic rocks is a valuable archive of the history of the behavior of the Earth’s magnetic field. Micromagnetic Tomography (MMT) allows to determine magnetic moments of individual iron-oxide grains in rocks. Theoretically this enables us to separate contributions from non-ideal recorders and ideal recorders,

Nanocrystalline Sm-based 1:12 magnets

, 2020
Recently 1:12 magnets of Sm-(Fe,V) have shown promising coercivities and the potential to be alternative rare-earth-lean permanent magnets. In this work, we investigated the effects of partial substitution of Cu, Mo and Ti for V in the magnets prepared ...

Attractive-domain-wall-pinning controlled Sm-Co magnets overcome the coercivity-remanence trade-off

Acta Materialia, 2019
Traditional approaches for increasing the intrinsic coercivity of magnets typically come at the expense of remanence, a dilemma known as intrinsic coercivity-remanence trade-off, leading to a substantial reduction of maximum energy product.

Quantifying the nucleation effect of correlated matrix grains in sintered Nd-Fe-B permanent magnets

, 2020
The long-standing issue-the ferromagnetic coupling of adjacent Nd2Fe14B matrix grains across grain boundaries severely impedes further coercivity enhancement of sintered Nd-Fe-B permanent magnets.

The Potential of the Quantum Diamond Microscope and Micromagnetic Tomography for Paleomagnetic Measurements

The Quantum Diamond Microscope holds the potential to revolutionize our field of research. It enables measurements on micrometer scale, going beyond the measurements on bulk rocks that we as a field of research have been using so far. An inherent limitation of QDM observations, however, is that it measures magnetic flux in one direction, usually ...

Micromagnetic Tomography applied to natural samples: first steps towards deriving rock magnetic and paleomagnetic data from subsets of magnetic grains in lavas

2019
Our understanding of the behavior of the geomagnetic field arises from magnetic signals stored in geological materials, e.g. lavas. Almost all experiments to determine the past state of the Earth's magnetic field use bulk samples (typically 1 - 10 cc) and measure their magnetic moment after series of laboratory treatments.
