A Micromechanical Theory of Flow in Pulmonary Alveolar Sheet
In this paper we reexamine the sheet-flow model proposed by Fung and Sobin (1969) for blood flow in capillaries in the pulmonary alveoli from micromechanical point of view. The pulmonary alveolar capillary is assumed to be two parallel membranes connected by periodic tissue posts.

DEFORMATION BEHAVIOR OF NANO/MICRO REINFORCED PMMA [PDF]
Práce sleduje vliv velikosti částic na elastický modul a deformační chování za mezí kluzu. Bylo pozorováno, že jak elastická oblast, tak oblast za mezí kluzu ukazuje silnou závislost chování na velikosti částic.

Coupling ultracold atoms to mechanical oscillators [PDF]
In this article we discuss and compare different ways to engineer an interface between ultracold atoms and micro- and nanomechanical oscillators. We start by analyzing a direct mechanical coupling of a single atom or ion to a mechanical oscillator and ...

A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.

Stiction of surface micromachined structures after rinsing and drying: model and investigation of adhesion mechanisms [PDF]
The mechanisms causing stiction of polysilicon structures fabricated by surface micromachining techniques have been investigated. It is found that during drying from rinse liquids attractive dynamic capillary forces are responsible for bringing ...

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Numerical Exploration of Thermal Shock Resistance in MgO–C Refractories
A mesostructure‐resolved numerical framework is developed to evaluate the thermal shock resistance of MgO–C refractories. By modeling interface debonding under rapid temperature changes and introducing a modified thermal shock parameter that accounts for mesocracks, the study shows how graphite content and aggregate size influence thermal shock ...
