Effective elastic moduli of two-dimensional solids with multiple cracks [PDF]
An accurate method which directly accounts for the interactions between different microcracks is used for analyzing the elastic problem of multiple cracks solids. The effective elastic moduli for randomly oriented cracks and parallel cracks are evaluated

Towards gigantic RVE sizes for 3D stochastic fibrous networks [PDF]
The size of representative volume element (RVE) for 3D stochastic fibrous media is investigated. A statistical RVE size determination method is applied to a specific model of random microstructure: Poisson fibers. The definition of RVE size is related to

Micromechanics of creep fracture: simulation of intergranular crack growth [PDF]
A computational model is presented to analyze intergranular creep crack growth in a polycrystalline aggregate in a discrete manner and based directly on the underlying physical micromechanisms.

Cosserat modeling of cellular solids [PDF]
Cellular solids inherit their macroscopic mechanical properties directly from the cellular microstructure. However, the characteristic material length scale is often not small compared to macroscopic dimensions, which limits the applicability of ...

A stress-based macroscopic approach for microcracks unilateral effect [PDF]
The question of the nonlinear response of brittle materials undergoing elastic damage is investigated here. Owing to the specific nature of microcracking, the macroscopic behaviour of these materials is complex, generally anisotropic owing to the ...

Comparison of several closure approximations for evaluating the thermoelastic properties of an injection molded short-fiber composite [PDF]
The accurate prediction of both the elastic properties and the thermal expansion coefficients is very important for the precise simulation of such processes as injection molding of short-fiber polymer-matrix composites.

Size effects in cellular solids [PDF]
The mechanical properties of metal foams (and other cellular solids) depend on the properties of the metal that they are made from, on their relative density, and on the cell topology (i.e., cell size, cell shape, open or closed cell morphology, etc ...

Analysis of two-dimensional finite solids with microcracks
A general method is presented for solving the plane elasticity problem of finite plates with multiple microcracks. The method directly accounts for the interactions between different microcracks and the effect of outer boundary of a finite plate ...

Enhancements on a micromechanical constitutive model of solid propellant
Abstract A constitutive model of solid propellant based on the micromechanical approach is presented. Proposed model includes the effects of temperature and strain rate dependency, and severe nonlinearities under cyclic loading. Damage is represented by the reduced elastic moduli which is the function of the void volume fraction.
