The micromechanism of the low-cycle fatigue of mono- and multilayer PVD coatings on cutting tools was investigated. Multilayer nanolaminate (TiAlCrSiY)N/(TiAlCr)N and monolayer (TiAlCrSiY)N PVD coatings were deposited on the cemented carbide ball nose ...

Effects of microstructure and crystallography on crack path and intrinsic resistance to shear-mode fatigue crack growth [PDF]
The paper focuses on the effective resistance and the near-threshold growth mechanisms in the ferritic-pearlitic and the pure pearlitic steel. The influence of microstructure on the shear-mode fatigue crack growth is divided here into two factors: the ...

Micromechanics of Alveolar Edema [PDF]
Abstract The decrease of lung compliance in pulmonary edema underlies ventilator-induced lung injury. However, the cause of the decrease in compliance is unknown. We tested the hypothesis that in pulmonary edema, the mechanical effects of liquid-filled alveoli increase tissue stress in adjacent air-filled alveoli.

Bonding evolution with sintering temperature in low alloyed steels with chromium [PDF]
At present, high performance PM steels for automotive applications follow a processing route that comprises die compaction of water-atomized powder, followed by sintering and secondary treatments, and finishing operations.

This study proposes a deep learning approach to evaluate the fatigue crack behavior in metals under overload conditions. Using digital image correlation to capture the strain near crack tips, convolutional neural networks classify crack states as normal, overload, or recovery, and accurately predict fatigue parameters.

Leading the Loop: Anchor‐Led Orchestration in Nascent Circular Ecosystems—A Qualitative Case Study
ABSTRACT The transition towards a circular economy necessitates coordinated, systemic change across value chains. Yet the role of anchor firms in initiating and orchestrating nascent circular ecosystems remains underexplored. Using an inductive, qualitative single‐case design, we analyse a German mid‐sized entrepreneurial firm, drawing on 21 interviews

Effect of the morphology of the martensite-austenite phase on fracture of the weld heat affected zone in vanadium and niobium microalloyed steels [PDF]
In multipass welding, the intercritically reheated coarse grained heat affected zone demonstrates the worst toughness in welded joint, since it contains a high-carbon martensite with some retained austenite, known as M-A phase, which is brittle and ...
