This paper presents the fabrication of a 3D microchannel whose sidewalls and bottom surface are patterned with ratchets using a modified 3D molding process. In the modified 3D molding process the surface of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) is first patterned using a brass mold having ratchet structures.

Volume 10: Micro and Nano Systems, 2010
We have developed a novel fabrication technique for a passive, continuous flow micromixer with laminar flow. The device is made by welding thin thermoplastic sheets using a simple manufacturing procedure which reduces the total cost of the device, and enables frequent changes to the design as necessary. Two types of mixers were made, one with obstacles

Barrier Embedded Chaotic Micromixer
The Sixteenth Annual International Conference on Micro Electro Mechanical Systems, 2003. MEMS-03 Kyoto. IEEE, 2002In this paper, we present a new chaotic passive micromixer named barrier embedded micromixer (BEM), with mixing visualization experimental results. Chaotic mixing in the microchannel has been successfully achieved by introducing periodic barriers on one microchannel wall which cause periodic perturbation in the velocity field of the helical flow.

Micromixing Within Microfluidic Devices
2011Micromixing is a crucial process within microfluidic systems such as micro total analysis systems (μTAS). A state-of-art review on microstructured mixing devices and their mixing phenomena is given. The review first presents an overview of the characteristics of fluidic behavior at the microscale and their implications in microfluidic mixing processes.
