Monsoon influences on micronekton of the Banda Sea (Indonesia)
Netherlands Journal of Sea Research, 1990Abstract Spatial and seasonal variations in abundance, biomass, composition, horizontal and vertical distribution of mesopelagic fishes and crustaceans of the eastern Banda Sea sampled by a RMT 8 during the southeast monsoon (August 1984) and northwest monsoon (February 1985) are described.

Potential Use of Broadband Acoustic Methods for Micronekton Classification
Acoustics Australia, 2017Broadband acoustic methods are an emerging technology with potential use in identification and classification of marine organisms. The application of broadband methods to scientific surveys of mesopelagic micronektons (animals of 2–20 cm length found at depths of 200–1000 m) is described. The principles of the broadband system are briefly outlined with

Acoustic estimates of zooplankton and micronekton biomass using an ADCP
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1998A calibrated 153-kHz narrow-band ADCP (Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler) has been used to collect acoustic backscatter intensity (Sv) data during several cruises in the Gulf of Mexico. Data have been gathered both while on station and while underway along transects through different hydrographic regimes, enabling an examination of both temporal and ...

Acoustic visualization of zooplankton and micronekton patchiness in oceanic ecosystems
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1995Acoustic visualization combines the techniques of acoustic remote sensing and scientific data visualization. It provides scientists with the means for interactively exploring three-dimensional data sets collected acoustically. In this presentation, field investigations will be presented in which acoustic visualization has provided unique insights into ...

New development in the MOCNESS, an apparatus for sampling zooplankton and micronekton
Marine Biology, 1985Four variants of the Multiple Opening/Closing Net and Environmental Sensing System (MOCNESS) have been constructed to sample a broad size spectrum of oceanic animals from microzooplankton to micronekton. The systems differ in mouth opening dimensions (ranging from 1/4 to 20 m2), the number of nets carried (from 5 to 20), and the mesh size of the ...

Global distribution and biomass of the mesopelagic mesozooplankton and micronekton community
2023Despite the ecological importance of mesopelagic zooplankton, very little is known about their global distribution in the midwater realm, and even less information is available on global trends in their diversity. This study is the first attempt to explore the distribution, diversity gradients, and total biomass of mesopelagic mesozooplankton and ...

The community structure of micronekton from an oceanic eddy
1985A mesoscale feature of the ocean exists on a spatial scale of tens to hundreds of kilometres and a temporal scale of one to three years. The size of micronekton (10 mm to 100 mm), their sustained swimming speed (at least 5 km d-1) and their lifespan (typically one to three years) recommend them for study in relation to mesoscale oceanographic features.
