Micromachining of Optical Fibers Using Selective Etching Based on Phosphorus Pentoxide Doping
This paper presents a maskless micromachining process that can reform or reshape a section of an optical fiber into a complex 3-D photonic microstructure.

Micro-optics for ultra-intense lasers
Table-top, femtosecond lasers provide the highest light intensities capable of extreme excitation of matter. A key challenge, however, is the efficient coupling of light to matter, a goal addressed by target structuring and laser pulse-shaping ...

Laser 3D Printing of Inorganic Free-Form Micro-Optics
A pilot study on laser 3D printing of inorganic free-form micro-optics is experimentally validated. Ultrafast laser direct-write (LDW) nanolithography is employed for structuring hybrid organic-inorganic material SZ2080TM followed by high-temperature ...

Ion-Exchanged Waveguides in Glass Doped with PbS Quantum Dots [PDF]
The lowest-loss (≤1 dB/cm) ion-exchanged waveguides in glass doped with PbS quantum dots are presented. Near-field mode profile and refractive index profile using the refracted near-field technique were measured for these waveguides.

A multi-exit recirculating optical packet buffer [PDF]
We propose a new type of recirculating buffer, the multiexit buffer (MEB), for use in asynchronous optical packet switches with statistical multiplexing, operating at speeds of 40-100 Gb/s.

Trace formula for a dielectric microdisk with a point scatterer [PDF]
Two-dimensional dielectric microcavities are of widespread use in microoptics applications. Recently, a trace formula has been established for dielectric cavities which relates their resonance spectrum to the periodic rays inside the cavity.

High-efficiency ultraviolet inscription of Bragg gratings in microfibers
In this paper, we demonstrate high-efficiency inscription of Bragg gratings in microfiber. Strong Bragg gratings are easily inscribed using a 193-nm excimer laser and phase mask in microfiber drawn from the 62.5/125- μm standard multimode fiber ...

Elemental Analysis of Catalysts in a Fixed‐Bed Reactor by Laser‐Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy
The “Elemental Composition” provides information about promoters and poisons found in heterogeneous catalysts. Access to this piece of information under reaction conditions remains yet an unsolved challenge. This work explores the potential and limitations of laser‐induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) as an in situ reactor diagnostic technique ...
