Pickering Emulsion for Enhanced Viability of Plant Growth Promoting Bacteria and Combined Delivery of Agrochemicals and Biologics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Cellulosic emulsions as multi‐cargo agriculture formulations. Pickering emulsions stabilized by cellulose acetate particles provide an effective platform for delivering a range of agricultural cargoes, including plant growth‐promoting bacteria and agrochemicals.

Rotation and Oblique Irradiation Effects on Phototactic Algal Suspension Instability [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
In this study, we aim to explore the behavior of microorganisms in response to natural lighting conditions, considering the off-normal angles at which the sun strikes the Earth's surface. To achieve this, we investigate the effect of oblique irradiation on a rotating medium, as this combination represents a more realistic scenario in the natural ...

Stress-relieving plant growth-promoting bacterial co-inoculation enhances nodulation and nitrogen uptake in black gram under nitrogen-free saline conditions

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology
Non-halophytic plants are highly susceptible to salt stress, but numerous studies have shown that halo-tolerant microorganisms can alleviate this stress by producing phytohormones and enhancing nutrient availability.

Hierarchically Engineered Triple‐Defensive Antifouling Coating with Well‐Regulated Structure for Enhanced Wastewater Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by shark skin, which has a hydrophilic “denticle layer” and a low surface energy “mucus layer,” a triple‐defense antifouling coating is developed. This coating features a robust hydrophilic catalytic nanoparticle layer overlaid with dispersed hydrophobic perfluoro‐silane domains, optimizing fouling resistance, release, and degradation for ...

Physiological and genomic insights into the lifestyle of arsenite-oxidizing Herminiimonas arsenitoxidans

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Arsenic, a representative toxic metalloid, is responsible for serious global health problems. Most organisms possess arsenic resistance strategies to mitigate this toxicity.

Sonochemical Functionalization of Glass

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A new method for functionalizing glass using ultrasonication of aryl diazonium salts. Aryl radicals generated by ultrasounds react with glass, forming a stable, covalently bonded organic film. The functionalized glass adheres microorganisms such as microalgae, fungi, and bacteria, suggesting potential applications in enzyme production, filtration ...

Microorganisms for analysis [PDF]

open access: yesAnalytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry, 2011
The very first observations of microorganisms by Antonie Van Leeuwenhoek and Louis Joblot in the 17th century paved the way to what we now know as modern microbiology. It has been estimated that 50% of the earth’s biomass is microbial (parasites, diatoms, microalgae, fungi, bacteria, and viruses) and of these, viruses (living parasitic organisms that ...

Multifunctional Hydroxyapatite Coated with Gallium Liquid Metal‐Based Silver Nanoparticles for Infection Prevention and Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A multifunctional hydroxyapatite (HAp) coating integrated with silver‐gallium liquid metal nanoparticles (HAp‐Ag‐GaNPs) exhibits dual antibacterial and osteogenic properties. It effectively inhibits Gram‐positive and Gram‐negative bacteria, including resistant strains, while enhancing bone regeneration.

Supervariate Gel Transforms into Various Biominerals in Salt Solutions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
It is revealed that common calcium‐based biominerals can form from a stable, non‐toxic ‘supervariate’ gel. This tunable gel selectively yields calcite or hydroxyapatite in carbonate/phosphate solutions, while CaCl₂ facilitates the formation of dihydrate calcium pyrophosphate, which converts to hydroxyapatite upon drying. These findings provide insights
