Achieving High‐Density and Stress‐Resilient Maize Breeding Via Germplasm Innovation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Global population growth and climate change have exacerbated the global food crisis. This perspective presents a conceptual framework focusing on enhancing population advantages. Several novel breeding objectives are proposed to improve density tolerance and stress resistance for yield improvement.

Microorganisms in Halite.

open access: yesJournal of Geography (Chigaku Zasshi), 2003
Extreme halophiles (halobacteria) are microorganisms that require a high concentration of NaCl for their optimal growth. They belong to the domain Archaea, together with methanogens and some thermophiles. It has been shown that halobacterial cells are entrapped within the fluid inclusions when NaCl crystallizes, and viable cells could be recovered ...

Enzymatic Basis for the Oxidative Branch of Aromatic Amino Acid Fermentation Leading to p‐cresol Formation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In anaerobic bacteria, tyrosine serves as an electron donor in the oxidative Stickland fermentation branch, generating p‐hydroxyphenylacetate, ATP and reduced ferredoxin for decarboxylation into p‐cresol. ABSTRACT The phenolic metabolite p‐cresol is a byproduct of tyrosine fermentation by certain strictly anaerobic bacteria, including the human gut ...

Advanced Dental Composite Technology via Bisilanized Dual‐Action Nanofillers for Biofilm Control

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A multimodal research strategy has led to the development of an innovative resin‐based composite (RBC) with dual antibacterial action. The S_CM‐RBC formula showed strong antibiofilm activity, excellent mechanical strength, and biosafety. It effectively controlled oral bacteria in prevention of caries recurrence, and maintained pulp health in a rat ...

Mechanistic Design of Graphdiyne‐Based Multimodal Sensing Integrating Machine Learning and Photothermal Dynamics for Precision Recognition and On‐Demand Inactivation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A triple‐mode theranostic platform enables integrated electrochemical, colorimetric, and photothermal detection of bacterial infection. Glucose oxidation triggers H2O2 generation and TMB oxidation to oxTMB, producing color and thermal signals under 808 nm NIR irradiation.

Microbial Odorant Detection Guides Drosophila Parasitoids Seeking Hosts in Fermenting Fruits

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Yeast microbes in fermenting fruits attract both host flies and their parasitoid wasps. Female Leptopilina boulardi detect yeast‐emitted ethyl esters via two olfactory receptors, LbouOR167 and LbouOR136. A conserved residue, Leu159, is critical for binding these compounds, enabling female wasps to locate host‐rich habitats.

Chitosan‐Carbon Dot Composite Materials Form a Leaf Surface Barrier to Mitigate the Enrichment and Invasion of Nanoplastics: From Leaf Interface to Systemic Response

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Foliar spraying of CS‐CDs can form a film on the leaves of Brassica rapa, effectively reducing the enrichment and absorption of PS in the leaves, while increasing the biomass and nutrient content of the plants. In addition, CS‐CDs can also enrich the interfoliar microbial community and activate the plant's own defense metabolic pathways.

Genomic analysis of Brucella melitensis isolates recovered from humans in south Tunisia over 35 years between 1988 and 2022

open access: yesBMC Microbiology
Brucella melitensis is a zoonotic pathogen that poses a worldwide public health challenge. In recent years, whole-genome sequencing has become a widely accepted molecular typing method for the genomic epidemiology of brucellosis.
