On the Design of Target Beampatterns for Differential Microphone Arrays
IEEE/ACM Transactions on Audio Speech and Language Processing, 2019Differential microphone arrays (DMAs) have many interesting properties and have been widely used in acoustic, audio, and speech applications. A critical part of a DMA is the differential beamformer, which is generally designed in two important steps: 1 ...

This paper proposes the co-prime circular microphone array (CPCMA), which applies co-prime array theory to circular microphone arrays. Compared with a conventional uniform circular array (UCA) with the same number of microphones and radius, the CPCMA ...

5th International Workshop on Speech Processing in Everyday Environments (CHiME 2018), 2018
This paper presents Hitachi and JHU’s efforts on developing CHiME-5 system to recognize dinner party speeches recorded by multiple microphone arrays. We newly developed (1) the way to apply multiple data augmentation methods, (2) residual bidirectional ...

On the Design of Flexible Kronecker Product Beamformers with Linear Microphone Arrays
IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2019This paper proposes a method for the design of flexible Kronecker product beamformers based on the decomposition of the steering vector of a physical array as a Kronecker product of steering vectors of two smaller virtual arrays. With this decomposition,

Superdirective Microphone Arrays
2001This chapter gives an overview of so-called superdirective beamformers, which can be derived by applying the minimum variance distortionless response (MVDR) principle to theoretically well-defined noise fields, as for example the diffuse noise field. We show that all relevant performance measures for beamformer designs are functions of the coherence ...

Microphone position and gain calibration for a large-aperture microphone array
IEEE Transactions on Speech and Audio Processing, 2005Large-aperture microphone arrays have the potential for providing quality speech acquisition from multiple talkers over a large focal area for such applications as teleconferencing and speech-recognition input. The cost of computing is rapidly approaching the point at which these arrays will be practical in many common environments.

Teleconference microphone arrays
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1982A directional array of acoustic transducers is disclosed. The acoustic transducers are arranged colinearly and in pairs symmetrically about a center line of the directional array. The distances of the acoustic transducers on either side of the center line of the array are neither linear nor monotonic.

Design of Robust Differential Microphone Arrays
IEEE/ACM Transactions on Audio, Speech, and Language Processing, 2014Differential microphone arrays (DMAs), due to their small size and enhanced directivity, are quite promising in speech enhancement applications. However, it is well known that differential beamformers have the drawback of white noise amplification, which is a major issue in the processing of wideband signals such as speech.

Calibration of a Microphone Array Based on a Probabilistic Model of Microphone Positions
2020This paper addresses a novel method for calibrating microphone positions included in a microphone array. The performance of microphone array processing deteriorates due to two factors: (1) differences between predetermined position and actual positions of the microphones. (2) sound source signal overlaps in frequency and time.
