Marine Pollution Bulletin, 2021
The problem of microplastic pollution is now the order of the day in front of everyone's eyes affecting the environment and the health of leaving creature. This work aims to retrace the history of microplastics in a critical way through a substantial bibliographic collection, defining the points still unresolved and those that can be resolved. Presence

Microplastic and charred microplastic in the Faafu Atoll, Maldives
Marine Pollution Bulletin, 2018Microplastics are recognized as a growing threat for the marine environment that may even affect areas generally considered pristine. In this work we surveyed the microplastic contamination in the Faafu Atoll (Maldives, Indian Ocean) across twelve sampling station, located either inside or outside the reef rim.

The pervasive spread of microplastics (MPs) in the environment (including air, water, and food) has raised concerns regarding human health. These pollutants have been detected in various human tissues such as lungs, colon, blood, placenta, tumors, and body fluids.

Microplastics are not microplastics are not microplastics
Microplastics are commonly defined as plastic particles of varying shapes less that 5 mm in diameter (NOAA, 2024a). Compared to macroplastics waste, which is relatively easy to visualise and trace back to its source, microplastic pollution is largely invisible, yet pervasive, and exerts its toxic effects in insidious ways.openaire +1 more source

Abstract This chapter briefily introduces the origins of yield and plastic flow, and in particular, attempts to explain the usual assumptions in simple continuum plasticity of isotropy, incompressibility, and independence of hydrostatic stress.

Human Consumption of Microplastics
Environmental Science & Technology, 2019Microplastics are ubiquitous across ecosystems, yet the exposure risk to humans is unresolved. Focusing on the American diet, we evaluated the number of microplastic particles in commonly consumed foods in relation to their recommended daily intake. The potential for microplastic inhalation and how the source of drinking water may affect microplastic ...

Immunotoxicity of microplastics in fish
Fish & Shellfish ImmunologyPlastic waste degrades slowly in aquatic environments, transforming into microplastics (MPs) and nanoplastics (NPs), which are subsequently ingested by fish and other aquatic organisms, causing both physical blockages and chemical toxicity. The fish immune system serves as a crucial defense against viruses and pollutants present in water.

Microplastics as vectors of contaminants
Marine Pollution Bulletin, 2019Pollution by microplastics and antibiotics is an emerging environmental, human and animal health threat. In spite of several studies documenting the widespread occurrence of plastic debris in aquatic ecosystems, research focusing on occurrence and concentration of biological and chemical contaminants attached on microplastic surface as well as on ...
