Accelerating Biosensor Discovery: A Computationally‐Driven Pipeline for Microplastics Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
A computationally guided pipeline unites molecular simulation, synthetic biology, electrochemical engineering, and machine learning to accelerate biosensor discovery. A Bacillus anthracis carbohydrate‐binding module is used to develop a high‐performance micro‐ and nanoplastics sensor with greatly reduced error and variability.

Embedding Chemistry and Pharmacy Into Sustainability

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
Chemistry and pharmacy provide products and processes that are indispensable for our high living standard. To understand their relationship with sustainability is important to allow them to contribute to sustainability in a sustainable manner. An integrated overview of green, circular, and sustainable chemistry and pharmacy is given and how they have t

Microplastics and Fibrous Fragments Generated during the Production and Maintenance of Textiles

open access: yesFibers
More than a third of microplastics in surface waters are formed by microplastics released from textile products containing textile fibers (fibrous microplastics).

Influence of Storage Time on Functional Bulk Properties of Low‐Pressure Oxygen/Argon Plasma Modified Polypropylene Fabric

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, EarlyView.
Treatment of polypropylene fabric in oxygen plasma was used to impart the fabric surface with more hydrophilic surface properties. Changes in bulk properties were minimal as the modification mainly affected the fabric surface. Bulk fabric properties water retention, moisture content and wicking were monitored over a period of 33 days.

Emerging research directions in nanoparticle‐based foam control for bioprocessing: a bibliometric approach

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract Overfoaming remains a critical challenge in industrial bioprocesses, compromising mass transfer, operational stability, and downstream efficiency in bioreactors and wastewater treatment systems. This study provides a bibliometric and scientometric assessment of nanoparticle‐enabled foam control to map technological trends and identify research

Spatial–Temporal Characterization of Microplastics in the Surface Water of an Urban Ephemeral River

open access: yes
Rivers are recognized as major unilateral pathways of microplastic transport between terrestrial and marine ecosystems, yet our understanding of their dispersal patterns over space and through time as they migrate from source to sink is limited.

Fouling‐Free Inertial Microfluidic Cell Clarification for Lentivirus Manufacturing

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Lentiviral vectors (LVVs) are widely used as gene‐delivery vehicles in cell and gene therapy, enabling stable integration of transgenes into target cells. However, efficient clarification of LVV harvest remains a major bottleneck in large‐scale manufacturing, as conventional depth filtration often results in significant product loss.

Effects of microplastics on head-kidney gene expression and biochemical biomarkers in adult zebrafish

open access: yes, 2020
Due to massive production, improper use and disposal of plastics, microplastics have become global environmental pollutants affecting both freshwater and marine ecosystems.

The influence of rivers on seabird foraging ecology

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Rivers act as vital arteries to the world's oceans, delivering fresh water and nutrients that sustain marine ecosystems. Globally, river flow increasingly is being altered by climate change and anthropogenic pressures; yet the significance of rivers to predatory marine species, such as seabirds, and the extent to which river‐related changes ...
