Trace Levels of Triclosan May Affect Root Growth and Morphology in Cultivated Plants
ABSTRACT Triclosan (TCS) is a micropollutant frequently detected in biosolids applied to agricultural soils. In soil solution—where it is potentially bioavailable to roots—it occurs at residual concentrations (ng L−1). Nevertheless, the ecotoxicological implications of TCS exposure in agricultural crops at these concentrations are still not fully ...

ABSTRACT Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) pose significant ecological and human health risks due to their persistence, bioaccumulation, toxicity, and global distribution. Conventional remediation methods are often inadequate for achieving complete mineralization, demonstrating the need for advanced and substantial approaches.

Abstract Micropollutants (MPs) are biological or chemical compounds resulting from human activities that make their way into water bodies in trace quantities. They cause adverse effects on aquatic environments and their complexity and costly quantification makes them difficult to monitor and, consequently, the implementation of ...

Nature and Origin of Micropollutants
The origins of “micropollutants” are discussed and classified. It is suggested that assessing the risk and ensuring an acceptably low level of adverse effects from these substances requires information or control of three factors (exposure, toxicity and characteristics of the victim or organism) which combine to generate the toxic event.

Advanced Sorbent Materials in Solid‐Phase Extraction: A Decade of Innovation and Future Perspectives
This review systematically summarizes five families of advanced sorbent materials for solid‐phase extraction (SPE): nanocarbons, porous frameworks (MOFs/COFs), smart polymers, biomass‐derived sorbents, and multifunctional composites. Key molecular interactions (π–π stacking, hydrogen bonding, electrostatic attraction, host–guest recognition) are ...

Learning Networks Drive Environmental Innovation: Evidence From Fourth‐Stage Purification Diffusion
ABSTRACT Contaminants of emerging concern, including pharmaceuticals and industrial chemicals, threaten water quality globally. In the European Union (EU), until the adoption of the revised Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive in 2024, a regulatory gap had left the member states and the municipalities in them without binding removal standards ...

Methods for eliminating micropollutant from wastewater: A review
The amount of suspended solid and medicinal micropollutants, such as fungicides, personal care products, contraceptive medications, antibiotics and aromatic hydrocarbons are increasing daily and has reached an alarming level.

Abstract BACKGROUND Hospital premises generate wastewater containing a wide spectrum of contaminants, such as pharmaceutically active compounds (PhACs), antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and pathogenic microorganisms, whilst plenty of them are classified under the antibiotic resistant bacteria (ΑRΒ) category.

Influence of Micropollutants on Vegetation
Potentially phytotoxic inorganic and organic micropollutants are listed and some of their effects are described. The use of plant analysis for assessing phytotoxicity in terms of relative pollution hazard is discussed. The discharge of sludges and effluents are facets of the water cycle which result in exposure of plants to micropollutants. When sewage

Abstract BACKGROUND Parabens, including butylparaben (BP), are widely used as antimicrobial preservatives in food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals, yet are poorly removed by conventional water treatment processes and pose potential risks to aquatic life and human health.
