ABSTRACT Aim Quaternary climatic oscillations have profoundly shaped the genetic structure and geographic distributions of alpine biotas. Understanding how cold‐adapted taxa responded to past climatic shifts is essential for unravelling the processes shaping mountain biodiversity, yet cold‐adapted taxa may have followed divergent refugial histories. Microrefugia for Small Mammals in European Forests
This review examines how forest microrefugia (fine-scale thermal and moisture shelters formed by canopy complexity, deadwood, topography, and snow) protect small mammals from climate extremes in European forests. It synthesizes evidence on the physiological and behavioral sensitivity of rodents and shrews to near-ground abiotic environmental conditions

Glacier shrinkage and slope processes create habitat at high elevation and microrefugia across treeline for alpine plants during warm stages [PDF]
The temperature rise at the global level and glacier shrinkage are deemed to induce new dynamics between biotic and abiotic factors, especially in mountain regions.

The Montane Atlantic Rainforest of Southeastern Brazil: altitudinal migration and microrefugia during the Late Pleistocene and Holocene [PDF]
A Floresta Atlântica Montana do sudeste do Brasil é um ecossistema único em todo o mundo, pois abriga espécies endêmicas e ameaçadas de extinção, que são vulneráveis ao aquecimento global.

Tree migration-rates: narrowing the gap between inferred post-glacial rates and projected rates.
Faster-than-expected post-glacial migration rates of trees have puzzled ecologists for a long time. In Europe, post-glacial migration is assumed to have started from the three southern European peninsulas (southern refugia), where large areas remained ...

Sparsely vegetated habitats of cliffs and screes act as refugia for many regional and local endemic specialized plant taxa most of which have evolved precisely for that type of habitat.

Forest composition and diversity buffer microclimates and enhance productivity
The findings show that tree diversity and the proportion of fast‐growing, early successional tree species can increase canopy cover and buffer the microclimates of young forests, benefiting the physiology and productivity of slower‐growing, shade‐tolerant tree species.

Conserving climate‐change refugia: Insights from research and practice
As the impacts of anthropogenic climate change increase, conservation of climate‐change refugia has become a key strategy for effective environmental stewardship.

Herpetofaunal richness and endemism hotspots differ in subtropical rainforest. ABSTRACT Identifying biodiversity hotspots is a key strategy for prioritising conservation efforts. However, depending on the biodiversity measures or taxonomic groups used, different areas may be prioritised, especially at broader spatial scales.
