X‐Ray Tomography Analysis of Damage Mechanisms in Metal Matrix Syntactic Foams During Compression

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In situ synchrotron X‐ray tomography is used to investigate the internal damage mechanisms of AlSi12 metal matrix syntactic foam with ceramic hollow spheres during compressive loading. It is concluded that a homogeneous distribution of the second‐phase filler material results in a sequential collapse in a localized region; this leads to controlled and ...

Scanning Electron Microscopy of the Rainbow Trout (Salmo gairdneri Richardson) Spermatozoon [PDF]

open access: yes, 1976
The scanning electron microscope was used to determine the morphology of the rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri Richardson) spermatozoon. The spermatozoon is approximately 32 μm long and consists of a head, mitochondrial collar, and flagellum.

Scanning Electron Microscopy

open access: yesOphthalmic Research, 1981
Our laboratory undertook extensive light, transmission (TEM) and scanning elctron microscope (SEM) studies of rat lenses during the development and reversal phase of galactose-induced cataracts. These studies were undertaken in order to gain insight into the morphological manifestation of known biochemical changes that accompany development and ...

Micropleated Nanofibrous Filters for High‐Efficiency Submicron Aerosol Filtration: A Comparative Study with Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Gas Mask Filters

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents micropleated filters manufactured by needleless electrospinning. Nanofibers are deposited onto uniaxially pre‐stretched substrates that contract upon release, forming densely packed micropleats. This architecture increases effective surface area without enlarging the filter size, achieving quality factors comparable to those of ...
