Cutaneous collagenous vasculopathy: light and transmission electron microscopy [PDF]

open access: yesAnais Brasileiros de Dermatologia, 2019
Cutaneous collagenous vasculopathy is a rare acquired idiopathic microangiopathy characterized by progressive development of diffuse asymptomatic telangiectasias and histologically by accumulation of collagen type IV around the affected vessels.

Atomic-scale imaging of electron sensitive zeolites with aberration corrected transmission electron microscopy

open access: yesOpen Ceramics, 2023
The spatial resolution of transmission electron microscopes (TEMs) and scanning transmission electron microscopes (STEMs) has been drastically improved by introducing aberration correction.

Nanostructured, mesoporous Au/TiO2 model catalysts – structure, stability and catalytic properties

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Nanotechnology, 2011
Aiming at model systems with close-to-realistic transport properties, we have prepared and studied planar Au/TiO2 thin-film model catalysts consisting of a thin mesoporous TiO2 film of 200–400 nm thickness with Au nanoparticles, with a mean particle size

Transmission Electron Microscopy for Tobacco Chloroplast Ultrastructure

open access: yesBio-Protocol, 2015
The chloroplast is the site of photosynthesis that enabled and sustains aerobic life on Earth. Chloroplasts are relatively large organelles with a diameter of ~5 μm and width of ~2.5 μm, and so can be readily analysed by electron microscopy.

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Comprehensive profiling of lncRNAs and mRNAs enriched in small extracellular vesicles for early noninvasive detection of colorectal cancer: diagnostic panel assembly and extensive validation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Small extracellular vesicles are a promising source of diagnostic molecules. We conducted a comprehensive study, including transcriptome profiling and RT‐qPCR validation on large cohorts of samples. Diagnostic panels enabling sensitive detection of colorectal cancer and precancerous lesions were established. Some molecules were differentially expressed

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

Oriented attachment explains cobalt ferrite nanoparticle growth in bioinspired syntheses

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Nanotechnology, 2014
Oriented attachment has created a great debate about the description of crystal growth throughout the last decade. This aggregation-based model has successfully described biomineralization processes as well as forms of inorganic crystal growth, which ...

ELECTRON TRANSMISSION MICROSCOPY

open access: yesLe Journal de Physique Colloques, 1974
The purpose of this short lecture is to explain why defects are imaged in the electron microscope, and to emphasize that a good understanding of the theory can lead to important informations about the defects. First, the different notions and parameters describing the diffraction of electrons by a perfect foil are introduced and discussed to some ...
