Partial Phase-Separation in the Initial Growth Stage of Exsolution-Active SrTi0.95-xNi0.05NbxO3-δ Thin Films. [PDF]

open access: yesAdv Sci (Weinh)
Phase separation emerges during the initial growth of heavily Ni‐ and Ni,Nb‐co‐doped STO thin films, leading to preferential accumulation of Ni and embedded NiOx nanoinclusions in thicker films. Nb co‐doping partially suppresses the ordering of these embedded structures, comprising about 20% of all Ni ions.

Probing Type-II Multiferroicity in Monolayer NiBr2. [PDF]

open access: yesAdv Sci (Weinh)
Type‐II multiferroicity is demonstrated in monolayer NiBr2. Scanning tunneling microscopy resolves ferroelectric polarization arising from non‐collinear magnetic order, and reciprocal control with electric and magnetic fields confirms intrinsic magnetoelectric coupling.

Graphene nanoribbons with zigzag and armchair edges prepared by scanning tunneling microscope lithography on gold substrates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The properties of graphene nanoribbons are dependent on both the nanoribbon width and the crystallographic orientation of the edges. Scanning tunneling microscope lithography is a method which is able to create graphene nanoribbons with well defined edge

Investigation of the unusual magnetic properties of Fe and Co on MgO with high spatial, energy and temporal resolution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Nanometer-sized magnets are used as magnetic bits in data storage devices to hold information. As such devices are further miniaturized, the control of magnetism at the atomic scale becomes essential.
