An off-axis transmission holographic scheme, in which a 1:1 lens and a hologram are treated as a single rigid entity, is found to reconstruct a 3-D diffraction-limited image when reconstructed, with a reference beam reversed back through the original lens-hologram unit.

Microscopy employs the use of microscopes, which are instruments designed to produce magnified visual or photographic images of objects too small to be seen with the naked eye. The goal of the microscope is to accomplish three tasks, namely produce a magnified image of the specimen, separate the details in the image, and render the details visible to ...

In recent years correlative microscopy, combining the power and advantages of different imaging system, e.g., light, electrons, X-ray, NMR, etc., has become an important tool for biomedical research. Among all the possible combinations of techniques, light and electron microscopy, have made an especially big step forward and are being implemented in ...

AbstractAbsorption of energy as light by some molecules and emission of energy as fluorescence can occur only at certain wavelengths, which are characteristic for a given molecule (fluorophore). Fluorescence microscopes are equipped to observe the fluorescence of one or more specific fluorophores to localize specific molecules and analyzed cellular ...

By taking advantage of combinations of the many rich properties of photons, new forms of optical microscopy can now be used to visualize features of samples beyond thickness and density variations. We are now within reach of viewing the motions, orientations, binding kinetics and specific transient associations of previously 'submicroscopic' cellular ...

We present the first experimental results of a technique called photoionization microscopy. Photoelectrons ejected in threshold photoionization of Xe are detected in a velocity map imaging apparatus, and interferences between various trajectories by which the electron moves from the atom to the detector are observed.
