Excavation-induced microseismicity: microseismic monitoring and numerical simulation
Journal of Zhejiang University SCIENCE A, 2012The volume of influence of excavation at the right bank slope of Dagangshan Hydropower Station, southwest China, is essentially determined from microseismic monitoring, numerical modeling and conventional measurements as well as in situ observations. Microseismic monitoring is a new application technique for investigating microcrackings in rock slopes.

Microseismic monitoring — Introduction
GEOPHYSICS, 2015Most papers the readers find in this special section were presented at the First International Workshop on Microseismic Technology held in Asheville, North Carolina, USA, on 17–22 August 2014. The workshop’s organizing and technical program committee consisted of Werner Heigl (Apache Corporation), Vladimir Grechka (Marathon Oil), Leo Eisner (IRSM ...

Microseismic depletion delineation
Interpretation, 2014Hess Corporation performed an extensive data collection project in 2011 designed to investigate infill well spacing in the Williston Basin. Using combined microseismic and pressure data collected from six observation wells and the original depleted horizontal wellbore, we identified the potential for using microseismic data to monitor the extent of ...

This paper describes a series of experiments having as their main purpose the investigation of the dynamic characteristics of soils. Waves in the soil were produced by a mechanical oscillator on top of the soil and picked up by seismometers on the surface and by pressure cells below the surface of the soil.

Microseismic Monitoring Of Engineering Structures
2nd EEGS Symposium on the Application of Geophysics to Engineering and Environmental Problems, 1989The monitoring of microseismic activity/acoustic emissions in engineering structures allows the detection and location of preliminary instabilities that always precede a structural failure. The primary advantage of this approach is that it can be used on operational structures and provide early warning of impending failure.

Microseismic monitoring has become an important part of borehole completions in tight-reservoir formations. Usually, clear objectives for a microseismic survey are set prior to the data acquisition. The possibility of meeting these objectives is determined by the acquisition geometry, the target formation, the completion schedule, and only to a lesser

High-resolution microseismic imaging
The Leading Edge, 2017We examine the feasibility of high-resolution microseismic imaging of unconventional reservoirs. Given frequencies in typical downhole microseismic data that are almost an order of magnitude higher than in seismic reflection data, a comparable increase in image resolution might be expected, bringing potential resolution of downhole microseismic images ...

Microseismic rupture propagation imaging
GEOPHYSICS, 2015We have developed a method for tracing the rupture propagation of microseismic events. We referred to it as microseismic rupture propagation imaging (MRPI), which is an adaptation of the back projection technique from global seismology. Hence, we shifted back recorded waveforms to a grid of possible source locations and obtained a coherent phase stack ...

Challenges for microseismic monitoring
SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2011, 2011We review important challenges in microseismic monitoring and interpretation of the microseismic events. We start with locations of microseismic events and the impact of temporal changes in velocity during hydraulic fracturing and consider effects of uncertainty in deviation surveys on both downhole and surface monitoring.
