Relative location of microseismicity

GEOPHYSICS, 2015
Applying the two-point paraxial ray tracing, we develop a technique for relative location of microseismic events. Our technique assumes the availability of a perforation shot or an already located microseismic event, termed the master, for which the paraxial ray tracing has been performed.

Microseismic Applications using DAS

Proceedings, 2013
Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) is a rapidly maturing fibre optic technology with many applications for wellbore monitoring and geophysical surveillance. DAS transforms a fibre optic cable into a distributed array of acoustic sensors. Shell is developing DAS technology in partnership with OptaSense, a subsidiary of QinetiQ U.K.

Microseismic Data Interpretation

2020
We review the value of information retrieved from microseismic data sets in the unconventional resource development. We explain the key information that can be extracted by using microseismic, seismic, well logs, geological and engineering data individually.

Ambiguity in microseismic monitoring

SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2011, 2011
Microseismic monitoring is synonymous with shale gas development in North America: experience with shale plays suggests a high degree of variability in rock properties, subsequent completion effectiveness, and ultimately gas production and EUR. There are several modes of acquisition currently in use to obtain microseismic information which is related ...

Microseismic Geomechanics – Complexity Simplified

Proceedings, 2012
Adopting the Kostrov methodology we determine a strain rate tensor for any grid area in 4D by summing source moment tensors of microseismic events. The predicted strain rate tensor is used to provide a priori constraints on the style and direction of the observed deformations.

Microseismic Imaging at KTB

72nd EAGE Conference and Exhibition incorporating SPE EUROPEC 2010, 2010
We have applied our approach for microseismic imaging to the data obtained from the German Continental Deep Drilling program (KTB project). This is a continuous data stream containing induced microseismicity data recorded at a single 3C geophone located at approximately 3.5 km depth. Using P and S time picks we have located 58 microseismic events using

Microseismic Monitoring Methods

2012
Microseismic monitoring methods have become an important tool used in determining of deformation limits and sizes of a medium under applied stresses in earth, structure and material sciences. Today, this method having many different purposes and fields of use has borrowed a number of analysis techniques from seismology.

Efficient mine microseismic monitoring

International Journal of Coal Geology, 2005
Abstract During the past 20 years, the microseismic technique has grown from a pure research means for rockburst study to a basic industrial tool for daily safety monitoring at rockburst-prone mines. This article examines the important issues for efficient mine microseismic monitoring programs.
