The Uniqueness of Microseismic Monitoring
Proceedings, 2011Microseismic monitoring is synonymous with shale gas development in North America: experience with shale plays suggests a high degree of variability in rock properties, subsequent completion effectiveness, and ultimately gas production and EUR. There are several modes of acquisition currently in use to obtain microseismic information which is related ...

Microseismic Monitoring - Technology State of Play
Proceedings of SPE Unconventional Gas Conference, 2010Abstract Microseismic monitoring has been largely accepted as an important adjunct to the hydraulic fracturing of unconventional gas reservoirs. Both surface and downhole methodologies are now common for the performance of such monitoring, each with its advantages and challenges. This paper discusses the state of the technology today and

Kashagan Oilfield Microseismic Monitoring
Second EAGE Workshop Practical Reservoir Monitoring 2019, 2019Summary Guralp has successfully installed 11 stations comprising borehole seismometers broadband around the Kashagan oilfield in the Caspian Sea in order to monitor both naturally occurring seismic events in the area and possible earthquakes induced by production activities managed by NCOC.

Microseismic Monitoring Methods
2012Microseismic monitoring methods have become an important tool used in determining of deformation limits and sizes of a medium under applied stresses in earth, structure and material sciences. Today, this method having many different purposes and fields of use has borrowed a number of analysis techniques from seismology.

Microseismic Monitoring: Inside and Out
Journal of Petroleum Technology, 2009Distinguished Author Series articles are general, descriptive representations that summarize the state of the art in an area of technology by describing recent developments for readers who are not specialists in the topics discussed. Written by individuals recognized as experts in the area, these articles provide key references to more definitive work ...

Microseismic Monitoring of the Valhall Reservoir
61st EAGE Conference and Exhibition, 1999Microseismic monitoring is an emerging technology within the hydrocarbon industry which is being driven by operator requirements for real-time information on hydraulic and geomechanical processes taking place within the reservoir in the interwell region.

Full Waveform Seismological Advances for Microseismic Monitoring
2015Abstract The observation of microseismicity has raised the interest of the seismological and geoengineering communities in the last decades, and a significant effort has been spent to develop or improve methodologies able to perform seismological analysis for weak events at a local scale.

Path effects in subsurface microseismic monitoring
The Leading Edge, 2012Path effects represent relative changes in amplitude and phase that occur when elastic waves propagate in different directions within a medium. Path effects for downhole microseismic monitoring differ fundamentally from path effects for surface monitoring. The reason for this difference is simple: in most cases, borehole microseismic recordings consist

A Validation Assessment of Microseismic Monitoring
SPE Hydraulic Fracturing Technology Conference, 2016AbstractMicroseismic monitoring of hydraulic fracturing in unconventional reservoirs is a valuable tool for delineating the effectiveness of stimulations, completions, and overall field development. Important information, such as fracture azimuth, fracture length, height growth, staging effectiveness, and many other geometric parameters, can typically ...

Data-acquisition design for microseismic monitoring
The Leading Edge, 2010Microseismic monitoring of hydraulic well treatments is one of the most useful seismic techniques that can aid the development of tight-gas and shale-gas fields. The main challenge in these fields is an extremely low formation permeability, which lies in the microdarcy or even nanodarcy range and requires thousands of closely spaced wells to drain the ...
