Observation and characterization of mode splitting in microsphere resonators in aquatic environment
Whispering gallery mode (WGM) optical resonators utilizing resonance shift (RS) and mode splitting (MS) techniques have emerged as highly sensitive platforms for label-free detection of nano-scale objects.

MEMS-actuated wavelength drop filter based on microsphere whispering gallery modes [PDF]
MEMS-enabled tuneable optical coupling between optical microsphere resonators and optical fibre waveguides is reported. We describe the design, fabrication and experimental characterization of a MEMS platform, based on electrothermal actuators, which ...

Atomic entanglement near a realistic microsphere [PDF]
We study a scheme for entangling two-level atoms located close to the surface of a dielectric microsphere. The effect is based on medium-assisted spontaneous decay, rigorously taking into account dispersive and absorptive properties of the microsphere ...

Synthesis of Silicon Microspheres [PDF]
The synthesis of silicon microspheres is of outmost importance, especially for the production of optical and electrical devices due to their unique properties displayed by this material. In this paper, we review the research on the synthesis of silicon microspheres, including one physical method, the drop method and several chemical methods, such as ...

Frequency tuning of the whispering gallery modes of silica microspheres for CQED and spectroscopy [PDF]
We have tuned the whispering gallery modes of a fused silica microresonator over nearly 1 nm at 800 nm, i.e. over 0.5 FSR or 10^6 linewidths of the resonator. This has been achieved by a new method based on the stretching of a two-stem microsphere.

Asymmetrical two-atom entanglement in a coated microsphere [PDF]
We study evolution of entanglement of two two-level atoms placed inside a multilayered microsphere. We show that due to inhomogeneity of the field modes this entanglement essentially depends on the atomic positions (asymmetrical entanglement) and also on

Nano-jet Related to Bessel Beams and to Super-Resolutions in Micro-sphere Optical Experiments
The appearance of a Nano-jet in the micro-sphere optical experiments is analyzed by relating this effect to non-diffracting Bessel beams. By inserting a circular aperture with a radius which is in the order of subwavelength in the EM waist, and sending ...

Mesoporous Silica Microspheres by Super‐Fast Alkaline Etching of Micrometer‐Sized Stöber Particles
Microscale silica particles are prepared along with a modified, scalable Stöber synthesis using the continuous addition of tetraethoxy silane to an ethanolic solution of ammonia with KCl. Etching with hydroxide ions at 95 °C gave porous analogs within minutes. Monodisperse particles are isolable in high yield after precipitation in ethanol.
