Nonlinear Composites and Microstructure Evolution
2001Recently developed methods for estimating the effective behavior of nonlinear composites are reviewed. The methods follow from variational principles expressing the effective behavior of the given nonlinear composites in terms of the behavior of suitably chosen “linear comparison” composites.

2001We consider a continuum model for the flow of two phases of different mobility and density in a Hele-Shaw cell or a porous medium. As a consequence of the Saffman-Taylor instability, the phase distribution is thought to develop a microstructure, so that its evolution is effectively unpredictable.
