Microstructural descriptors and cellular automata simulation of the effects of non-random nuclei location on recrystallization in two dimensions

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2006
The effect of non-random nuclei location and the efficiency of microstructural descriptors in assessing such a situation are studied. Cellular automata simulation of recrystallization in two dimensions is carried out to simulate microstrutural evolution ...

Mechanochemical Synthesis and Characterization of Nanostructured ErB4 and NdB4 Rare‐Earth Tetraborides

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
ErB4 and NdB4 nanostructured powders are produced by mechanochemical synthesis. 5 h mechanical alloying and 4 M HCl acid leaching are used in the production. ErB4 and NdB4 powders exhibit maximum magnetization of 0.4726 emu g−1 accompanied with an antiferromagnetic‐to‐paramagnetic phase transition at about TN = 18 K and 0.132 emu g−1 with a maximum at ...

Semisolid microstructural evolution of AlSi7Mg alloy during partial remelting [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Different as-cast microstructures of an AlSi7Mg alloy were produced by controlling the solidification conditions. The as-cast grain size ranged from 1.4 mm to 160 mum and the morphology varied from dendritic to rosette-like to globular.

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Low‐Cost, Large‐Scale Nanoporous Metals by Mechanical Alloying, Oxide Reduction, and Dealloying of Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Powder metal processing provides scalable advantages in nanoporous (np) metal development. Mechanical alloying is used to produce unique precursors for hybrid nanopore formation by oxide reduction and dealloying. As demonstrated in np Ag, this approach improves process efficiency while promoting smaller ligaments and larger pores, both of which are ...

Effect of Elastic Strain Energy on Dynamic Recrystallization During Friction Stir Welding of Dissimilar Al/Mg Alloys

open access: yesMetals
Dynamic recrystallization (DRX) is a critical microstructural evolution mechanism in friction stir welding (FSW) of metallic materials, directly determining the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of weld joints. In the field of DRX simulation,
