Clinically Relevant Outcome Measures in Women With Adrenoleukodystrophy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Adrenoleukodystrophy is a rare inherited peroxisomal disease caused by pathogenic variants in the ABCD1 gene located on the X chromosome. Although the most severe central nervous system and adrenal complications typically affect only men with adrenoleukodystrophy, the majority of women develop myeloneuropathy symptoms in adulthood.

Determination of the volume fraction of primary carbides in the microstructure of composite coatings using semantic segmentation

open access: yesFrontier Materials & Technologies, 2023
In the process of formation of composite coatings, partial dissolution of strengthening particles (most often carbides) in the matrix is possible; therefore, in some cases, the material creation mode is chosen taking into account the volume fraction of ...

Alzheimer's and vascular disease classification using regional texture biomarkers in FLAIR MRI.

open access: yesNeuroImage: Clinical, 2023
Interactions between subcortical vascular disease and dementia due to Alzheimer's disease (AD) are unclear, and clinical overlap between the diseases makes diagnosis challenging.

Value of MRI Outcomes for Preventive and Early‐Stage Trials in Spinocerebellar Ataxias 1 and 3

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To examine the value of MRI outcomes as endpoints for preventive and early‐stage trials of two polyglutamine spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs). Methods A cohort of 100 participants (23 SCA1, 63 SCA3, median Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) score = 5, 42% preataxic, and 14 gene‐negative controls) was scanned at 3T up ...

Selection of effective manufacturing conditions for directed energy deposition process using machine learning methods

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
In the directed energy deposition (DED) process, significant empirical testing is required to select the optimal process parameters. In this study, single-track experiments were conducted using laser power and scan speed as parameters in the DED process ...

An Objective Metallographic Analysis Approach Based on Advanced Image Processing Techniques

open access: yesJournal of Manufacturing and Materials Processing, 2023
Metallographic analyses of nodular iron casting methods are based on visual comparisons according to measuring standards. Specifically, the microstructure is analyzed in a subjective manner by comparing the extracted image from the microscope to pre ...

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Water mobility and microstructure of gluten network during dough mixing using TD NMR.

open access: yesFood Chemistry, 2022
This work aimed to establish the relationships between flour components, dough behaviour and changes in water distribution at mixing. TD NMR was used to track water distribution in dough during mixing for different mixing times and hydration levels. Four

Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for
