Microstructure and the Strength of Ceramics
1986Microstructural influences on ceramic strength become significant at small flaw sizes. These influences are readily quantified by strength testing with controlled indentation flaws. Data are presented here for alumina and glassy-ceramic specimens broken under both inert and fatigue conditions.

Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 2018Abstract Piezoresponse force microscopy was conducted on a polished slice of the perovskite oxynitride ceramic BaTaO2N after ammonolysis at a bias voltage of ± 10 V. The ceramic surface was relatively porous because it was readily hydrolyzed by ambient humidity.

Microstructure and Deterioration in Steatite Ceramics
Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 1983Pitting in steatite ceramics was found to occur as a result of (1) deterioration with time, the familiar aging phenomenon, and (2) secondary recrystallization, which takes place immediately after fabrication.
