Effect of the microstructure on the lifetime of dental ceramics [PDF]

open access: yesDental Materials, 2011
To evaluate the effect of the microstructure on the Weibull and slow crack growth (SCG) parameters and on the lifetime of three ceramics used as framework materials for fixed partial dentures (FPDs) (YZ - Vita In-Ceram YZ; IZ - Vita In-Ceram Zirconia; AL - Vita In-Ceram AL) and of two veneering porcelains (VM7 and VM9).Bar-shaped specimens were ...

Effect of BNNTs/matrix interface tailoring on toughness and fracture morphology of hierarchical SiCf/SiC composites

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Ceramics, 2019
A thin BN interphase is applied on BNNTs surface to tailor the interfacial bonding between BNNTs and SiC matrix in hierarchical SiCf/SiC composites. The thickness of BN interphase ranging from 10 to 70 nm can be optimized by chemical vapor deposition ...

Recent development of A2B2O7 system transparent ceramics

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Ceramics, 2018
A2B2O7 system compounds, which usually present three phase structures mainly based on the ionic radius ratios of r A and r B (r A/r B), have been studied for potential applications in many fields, such as thermal barrier coatings, luminescence powders ...

Reduced He ion irradiation damage in ZrC-based high-entropy ceramics

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Ceramics, 2023
Excellent irradiation resistance is the basic property of nuclear materials to keep nuclear safety. The high-entropy design has great potential to improve the irradiation resistance of the nuclear materials, which has been proven in alloys.

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for
