Cutaneous Phosphorylated Alpha‐Synuclein in Lewy Body Dementia

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To determine the test performance of cutaneous phosphorylated alpha‐synuclein (P‐SYN) in dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), individuals with reduced Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) and healthy controls. Methods This is the first subgroup analysis of the Synuclein‐One study, a prospective, blinded study evaluating P‐SYN detection ...

Adjustment of Coatings Morphology and Particle Distribution of Layered Silicates by Freeze‐Drying for Improved Gas Barriers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Freeze‐drying of layered silicate is the key to get coatings with superior gas barrier. Freeze‐drying of layered silicates modified with dodecylamine (DDA) is a highly effective technique for the preparation of barrier pigments that significantly mitigate the permeation of oxygen, water vapor, and hydrogen through polymer films containing these ...

A Biologically‐Architected Wear and Damage‐Resistant Nanoparticle Coating From the Radular Teeth of Cryptochiton stelleri

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The ultrahard teeth of mollusks that feed on rocky substrates contain a wear‐resistant coating on their surfaces consisting of densely packed mesocrystalline magnetic nanoparticles within an organic matrix. These coatings display significant hardness and toughness through their highly controlled mesocrystalline architectures.

A rapid cryo-sectioning method for micro-structural observation of woody stems

open access: yesXibei zhiwu xuebao
[Objective] The woody stems of plants are difficult to obtain satisfactory microscopic image in both freehand and paraffin sections due to the high content of secondary vascular tissues and high degrees of lignification of cell walls.

Electrical conductivity of multi-walled carbon nanotubes-SU8 epoxy composites

open access: yes, 2013
We have characterized the electrical conductivity of the composite which consists of multi-walled carbon nanotubes dispersed in SU8 epoxy resin. Depending on the processing conditions of the epoxy (ranging from non-polymerized to cross-linked) we ...

On the air permeability of Populus pit [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Sap hydrodynamics in vascular cells of trees seems to be controlled by small membranes called pits. Understanding how the pit junctions regulate the sap flow and stop embolism by cavitation is today a challenging issue.

Bio‐Inspired Nanoarchitected LiFePO4 Cathodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) is synthesized using a bio‐inspired method, using acidic macromolecules similar to those found in many calcareous mineralized organisms to modulate the morphology and crystal growth of LFP‐carbon composite particles. The observations from this process indicate a non‐classical crystallization process, which subsequently ...
