Melatonin Promotes Improvement in Serum Lipid Levels and Liver Histopathology in Hyperlipidemic Rats

open access: yesLipids, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hyperlipidemia or dyslipidemia is the term used for the increase in lipid levels in blood plasma, usually occurring due to a high‐fat diet associated with a sedentary lifestyle. The increase in lipid levels can cause fatty infiltration in the liver known as hepatic steatosis, which can lead to inflammation, fibrosis, and necrosis consecutively.

Quantitative Analysis of Locus Coeruleus Neurons and Thalamic Noradrenergic Axons in a Progressive 1‐Methyl‐4‐phenyl‐1,2,3,6‐tetrahydropyridine Monkey Model of Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesMovement Disorders, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Parkinson's disease is mainly characterized by dopaminergic neurodegeneration in the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc) and α‐synuclein accumulation. The locus coeruleus (LC) is also affected in Parkinson's disease and linked to some nonmotor symptoms, but the extent and timing of its degeneration remain unclear.

Adaptation of a rotary microtome for sectioning with glass knives

Journal of Microscopy, 1974
SUMMARYA glass knife holder for sectioning plastic embedded material, using a Jung microtome, is described. The knife holder and the device to clamp the LKB specimen chuck on the microtome are designed to fit the instrument without its modification.

A modified Spencer microtome for thin sectioning

Experimental Cell Research, 1957
Abstract A modification of the Spencer 820 rotary microtome to permit cutting of ribbons of thin sections suitable for electron microscopy is described. The feed mechanism has been changed in such a way that the specimen is automatically retracted to bypass the knife on the return stroke and brought back into position at the beginning of the cutting ...
