Mucosubstances in the porcine gastrointestinal tract: Fixation, staining and quantification [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Mucins are of great interest in intestinal research and histochemical methods are often employed to identify them. Since it is in the nature of mucins that they are “hard to hold onto” once they come into contact with water, a frequently used medium in ...

Hierarchically Engineered Multi‐Enzyme Nanoreactors for in vitro Drug Biosynthesis and Pathway Transplantation Into Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A hierarchically structured metal–organic framework (eMIL) is shown to host the complete six‐enzyme biosynthesis pathway for the anti‐cancer pigment violacein, reshaping reaction dynamics and multiplying in vitro yields. eMIL nanoreactors deliver this reconstituted bacterial multi‐protein system into mammalian cells, where cell‐derived substrates and ...

Improved Knife-Holders for Thin-sectioning with Rotary Microtomes.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1953
SummaryA modification of the knite holder for thin-sectioning microtomes has been described. A cam and lever arrangement, timed with the cutting cycle, advances the knife edge to the cutting position on the down stroke of the instrument and withdraws the knife edge approximately one-half mm on the return stroke.
