Tissue Microtomy: Principle and Procedure
2018This chapter presents the technique of tissue sectioning for histopathological examination. The different types of microtomes are used for sectioning of the tissue, and among those the rotary microtome is most commonly used in laboratory. This is a heavy and stable microtome, and good-quality 2–3-μm-thin section is possible by it. The chapter discusses

Methods for Improved Light Microscope Microtomy
Stain Technology, 1979Experiments undertaken to improve the ease and quality of preparing tissue for light microscopy have resulted in methods for routine production of high quality serial paraffin and glycol methacrylate sections in the 1 to 4 micrometer range using a standard rotary microtome.

The cervical neural foramina: correlation of microtomy and CT anatomy.
Radiology, 1985The CT appearance of the cervical neural foramina and contents is described in detail. Nineteen cervical spine specimens were studied with CT and corresponding cryomicrotomy in direct axial, sagittal, coronal, and oblique planes. Both ventral and dorsal nerve roots can be identified in the foramen's lower portion at or below the disk level.

Rotor Yarn Structure by Cross-Sectional Microtomy
Textile Research Journal, 1988A mathematical model is suggested for studying the radial packing density of yarn, and the proposed model is used for a comparative study of ring and rotor spun yarns. The results show that rotor spun yarn consists of a smaller number of fibers in the cross section compared to ring spun yarn, which explains the lower strength of rotor yarn.

Microtomy with a Reciprocating Circular Knife and a Mechanism for Sharpening the Knife
Review of Scientific Instruments, 1946The use of a circular reciprocating microtome knife is described along with a mechanism for sharpening the knife. A reduction of distortion in serial sections for embryological reconstructions is claimed and the physics involved noted. Related subjects are discussed and special emphasis is placed on the mechanics of sectioning with such a knife.

Postembedding Adjuvants In Routine Microtomy Of Paraffin-Processed Tissues
Stain Technology, 1978Soaking the exposed face of routine paraffin-processed tissue blocks from human autopsies in solutions containing either 60% ethyl alcohol-glycerol 9:1; glycerol-aniline 9:1; 5% aqueous phenol; 5% aqueous Photo-flo, or 10% aqueous ammonium hydroxide for 2--4 hours at 0--4 C resulted in greater ease of ribboning and overall improvement of slide quality ...
