Comparative Study of Microtremor Analysis Methods

open access: yesPure and Applied Geophysics, 2001
During a multidisciplinary microzonation pilot project in the city of Heraklion (Crete, Greece), microtremor data were collected at the top of exploratory boreholes specifically designed for the purposes of the project, over a period of 5 days, for 4 h/day at 125 Hz (continuous recordings).

Softening and Recovery of Near‐Surface Layers During the 2024 M7.6 Noto Earthquake

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 130, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract On 1 January 2024, a devastating MJ 7.6 earthquake occurred on the Noto Peninsula in Japan. When such a strong earthquake occurs, affected near‐surface soil layers behave nonlinearly and may undergo some structural changes driven by Flow Liquefaction, Cyclic Mobility, or Slow Dynamics phenomena.

Miniature array analysis of microtremors

open access: yesGeophysics, 2012
ABSTRACT We suggest observing microtremors by using a miniature array consisting of vertical-component seismometers that are placed at the center and on the circumference of a circle with a radius of several tens of centimeters, for identifying the phase velocities of Rayleigh waves with wavelengths exceeding several tens or a hundred

Combining GPR, Passive Seismic, and Load Testing With Computational Models in the Assessment of Historical Bridges: The Case Study of the Comboa Bridge

open access: yesStructural Control and Health Monitoring, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
The preservation of historical bridges usually requires extensive structural evaluations for possible damage detection. Therefore, effective techniques are essential for diagnosis and, consequently, proper maintenance and rehabilitation actions. The combination of techniques provides complementary data that support decision making.

Seismic Microzonation and Geotechnical Modeling Studies Considering Local Site Effects for İnegöl Plain (Bursa‐Turkey)

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 11, Issue 11, November 2024.
Abstract Local site effects play a vital role in determining the level of structural damage to the structures built on soil. Therefore, correctly determining the underground layer structure and its physical characteristics in the lateral and vertical directions is essential for the geotechnical model.

A Weighted Overlay Method for Liquefaction-Related Urban Damage Detection: A Case Study of the 6 September 2018 Hokkaido Eastern Iburi Earthquake, Japan

open access: yesGeosciences, 2018
We performed interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) analyses to observe ground displacements and assess damage after the M 6.6 Hokkaido Eastern Iburi earthquake in northern Japan on 6 September 2018.

Subsurface Imaging in Urban Areas With Ambient Noise Using DAS and Seismometer Data Sets: Granada, Spain

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 129, Issue 11, November 2024.
Abstract Distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) is an innovative technology with great potential for acquiring seismic data sets in urban areas. In this work, we check the suitability of a DAS data set acquired in Granada (Spain) for retrieving subsurface reflectivity from ambient noise. The fiber‐optic is a pre‐existing underground telecommunication cable
