Trigeminal Microvascular Decompression
2017Trigeminal neuralgia is unilateral recurrent episodes of sharp pain. Failing medical treatments require vascular decompression. Complications of the surgery include local ischemia and damage or irritation of the cranial nerve. Neurophysiological intraoperative monitoring (IOM) can be used to identify functional changes that can result in minimizing ...

Microvascular Decompression for Trigeminal Neuralgia
Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, 2015The aim of this study is to introduce zone exploration of the trigeminal nerve and decompression techniques for different types of vasculars. The trigeminal nerve was sectioned into 5 zones. Zone 1, 2, 3, 4 was located at the rostral, caudal, ventral, and dorsal part of the nerve root entry zone (REZ) respectively, and zone 5 was located at the distal ...

Endoscopic-Assisted Microvascular Decompression
2018Diseases of ephaptic transmission are commonly caused by vascular compression of cranial nerves. The advent of microvascular decompression has allowed for surgical intervention for this patient population. This chapter highlights the technique of endoscopic-assisted microvascular decompression for trigeminal neuralgia and hemifacial spasm.
