Erythrocyte ‘Feierzeit’ reaction: Novel filamentous and vesicular response to n‐butyl acetate
Abstract Human erythrocytes (red blood cells; RBCs) undergo spontaneous disassembly after several hours of exposure to n‐butyl acetate (nBA). Images of the morphological changes were captured in time‐lapse sequences using differential interference contrast (DIC) light microscopy.

Random Photon Absorption Model Elucidates How Early Gain Control in Fly Photoreceptors Arises from Quantal Sampling [PDF]
Many diurnal photoreceptors encode vast real-world light changes effectively, but how this performance originates from photon sampling is unclear. A 4-module biophysically-realistic fly photoreceptor model, in which information capture is limited by the ...

The expression of various genes involved in synapse development, stability and/or function was studied in developing mechanosensory neuromasts and electrosensory ampullary organs in sterlet sturgeon. Most were shared, including Slc17a8, Slc1a3 and Nrxn3, but Cbln18 was neuromast‐restricted and Tulp1 was ampullary organ‐restricted.

Prey capture and phagocytosis in the choanoflagellate Salpingoeca rosetta. [PDF]
Choanoflagellates are unicellular and colonial aquatic microeukaryotes that capture bacteria using an apical flagellum surrounded by a feeding collar composed of actin-filled microvilli.

Bioengineered tissue constructs are vital technologies employed in in vitro testing of both fundamental biological principles and industrial screening practices. Current approaches to modelling the nasal mucosa in vitro are not representative and are associated with limitations that impact their reliability and predictive value.

Fatty acid composition of Drosophila photoreceptor light-sensitive microvilli
Phototransduction, the mechanism underlying the electrical response to light in photoreceptor cells, has been thoroughly investigated in Drosophila melanogaster, an essential model in signal transduction research. These cells present a highly specialized

Three Decades of China's Bt Cotton: Achievements and Insights
ABSTRACT Cotton is a vital natural fibre crop with significant economic value worldwide. In response to the threat of cotton bollworm (Helicoverpa armigera), the China government initiated a research project in 1992 to develop transgenic Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) cotton.
