IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2007
We present the results of a study that shows that a simple design modification is sufficient to avoid a major shortcoming in the layout of external warm loads commonly used in the calibration of spaceborne microwave radiometers. The modification consists of placing a layer of Plastazote, a polyethylene foam, over the opening of the warm load enclosure.

Microwave brightness temperature of snow on terrain and lake ice revisited: Data and simulations
2017 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), 2017Two experimental brightness temperature data sets are revisited: A ground-based campaign of terrestrial snow in 1985 and an airborne research program of snow on lake ice in 2007–2014. Both data sets were obtained in southern Finland using multi-frequency microwave radiometers. In this paper both the overall behavior of the brightness temperature during

Hydrometeor Identification Using GMI Passive Microwave Brightness Temperatures
Journal of Applied Meteorology and ClimatologyAbstract Using passive microwave brightness temperatures Tb from the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) Microwave Imager (GMI) and hydrometeor identification (HID) data from dual-polarization ground radars, empirical lookup tables are developed for a multifrequency estimation of the likelihood a precipitation column includes certain hydrometeor ...
