Simple Estimation and Application of the Differential Resistance of a Photovoltaic Module at its Maximum Power Point

open access: yesIEEJ Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Engineering, EarlyView.
The modulating light irradiation method can estimate the target cell voltage in a working photovoltaic module without electrical contact. This method requires the differential resistances (DRs) of the target cell and module to quantitatively estimate the voltage.

A Preventive Static Security Control Strategy for Distribution Networks Based on Phase Shifting Transformer Loop‐Closing Devices

open access: yesIEEJ Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Engineering, EarlyView.
As the share of renewable energy in the energy mix continues to increase, the penetration of distributed renewable generation in distribution networks is also rising steadily. Loop‐closing operation provides an effective means to enhance renewable energy accommodation across different grid partitions.

Attention‐Based Spatial–Temporal Model for the Entire Indoor Space Temperature Estimation

open access: yesIEEJ Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Engineering, EarlyView.
This study proposes a novel attention‐based spatial–temporal model for indoor temperature estimation, which integrates positional encoding and an attention mechanism with a fully connected neural network. By jointly capturing temporal dynamics and spatial correlations, the model enables high‐resolution estimation of temperature fields across the entire

Matrix Approach to Computing MTTF of a System

open access: yesIEEJ Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Engineering, EarlyView.
This paper proposes a new method to compute the mean time to failure (MTTF) of a system that can be expressed with a combinatorial model whose components fail with i. i. d. The key idea is to use a matrix approach that replaces every component reliability with a specific matrix and replaces every operation (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and ...

Pickin' up good vibrations: a systematic review of footfall detection and analysis in the realm of wildlife surveying

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Exploration of new wildlife surveying methodologies that leverage advances in sensor technology and machine learning has led to tentative research into the application of seismology techniques. This, most commonly, involves the deployment of a footfall trap – a seismic sensor and data logger customised for wildlife footfall.

Bi[IrBi6I12], Ag3[IrBi6I12], and BixCu3–3x[IrBi6I12]: Rock‐Salt Superstructures Based on Heavy‐Atom Clusters

open access: yesZeitschrift für anorganische und allgemeine Chemie, EarlyView.
New iridium‐containing bismuth subiodides based on cuboctahedral [IrBi6I12]3− clusters adopt chain‐like or rock‐salt‐related structure variants depending on the counter‐cations. Ag3[IrBi6I12] combines silver mobility at room temperature with long‐range ordering at low temperature, while DFT calculations reveal semiconducting behavior.
