Variable frequency microwave curing of photosensitive polyimides

IEEE Transactions on Components and Packaging Technologies, 2001
Variable frequency microwave (VFM) curing was investigated as a means of rapid curing of two photosensitive polyimides. The properties of two polymers, PI 2734 and Ultradel 7501, cured by convective heating and VFM curing were compared. The results of this study indicate that rapid VFM curing of these polymers is feasible.

Study on Microwave Curing of Radioactive Waste

Volume 5: Fuel Cycle, Radioactive Waste Management and Decommissioning; Reactor Physics and Transport Theory; Nuclear Education, Public Acceptance and Related Issues; Instrumentation and Controls; Fusion Engineering, 2013
Processing of nuclear waste has become an important issue nowadays. A microwave waste disposal method for solid waste mainly containing Ni, Fe element and their oxide produced in the primary loop is investigated in this article. The powder waste, which is treated as absorber of microwave and energy source for curing, was doped in the curing agent that ...

Microwave Curing of Synthetic Rubbers*

Journal of Microwave Power, 1973
AbstractIt is shown that the microwave absorption characteristics of compounds based on a given polymer can be controlled by incorporating suitable compounding ingredients, even if the polymer itself absorbs microwave energy only weakly. On the basis of ten different application-oriented compound formulations it is shown that the quality of microwave ...

Microwave curing of carbon nanotube/epoxy adhesives

Composites Science and Technology, 2014
Abstract In this paper we have shown that using microwave to cure epoxy adhesive containing multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) not only leads to large time and energy savings, but also results in much higher strength. The well-dispersed MWNTs in the epoxy resin absorb microwave energy, acting as heat sources to cure the epoxy resin uniformly and ...

A Microwave curing system for microelectronics assembly

2012 4th Electronic System-Integration Technology Conference, 2012
An approach to curing thermosetting polymers is the use of Variable Frequency Microwave (VFM) systems, which have been shown to cure encapsulant materials in substantially shorter times than conventional methods [1]. The microwave curing of thermosetting polymer material is a complex process, with interactions between electromagnetic field intensity ...

Polymer Curing Using Variable Frequency Microwave Processing

MRS Proceedings, 1994
ABSTRACTEpoxy resin was cured by microwave heating using a variable frequency furnace. Curing behavior and uniformity were characterized by visual inspection, hardness, and differential scanning calorimetry. Frequency sweeping was used as a means of mode stirring to minimize power nonuniformities in the furnace cavity.

Dynamic behavior of microwave-cured guitar wood

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2011
An ongoing investigation has been conducted to measure and analyze vibration properties of guitar-body wood samples with different wood finish curing methods for Taylor Guitars. The current method uses ultraviolet radiation to cure a lacquer finish. Virginia Tech's (VT) Material Science & Engineering Department has proposed an alternative method ...

Microwave Curing and Drying of Cellular Concrete

MRS Proceedings, 1992
ABSTRACTTraditionally the heating and curing of cellular concrete takes place in an autoclave. This building material is a thermal insulator so the curing and drying processes are energy and time consuming. Volumetric heating is an attractive method for improving the throughputs.A feasibility study leads to the conclusion that microwave processing is ...
