Integrated microwave photonic filters [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Optics and Photonics, 2020
Microwave signal filtering is a fundamental and central functionality in radio frequency systems. We review the principles, architectures, and superior performance of emerging integrated microwave photonic filters enabled by on-chip linear and nonlinear photonic devices.

Cooking Microwave Filters: Is Synthesis Still Helpful in Microwave Filter Design?

IEEE Microwave Magazine, 2020
In "Recipe for Cooking Microwave Filters," we show the classic recipe for "cooking" with narrow-or moderate-bandwidth microwave filters. While the result of this recipe is generally effective [1] (the "cake" is only rarely not edible), the tendency of some "cooks" (often young microwave engineers) is to jump to the last two steps as quickly as possible.

Design of microwave filters

IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, 2002
A survey of the major techniques used in the design of microwave filters is presented in this paper. It is shown that the basis for much fundamental microwave filter theory lies in the realm of lumped-element filters, which indeed are actually used directly for many applications at microwave frequencies as high as 18 GHz.

Modeling of Planar Microwave Filters

33rd European Microwave Conference, 2003, 2003
An approach for modeling of planar microwave filters by the Method of Lines (MoL) is presented. The algorithm combines 2-D discretization of the cross-section with the numerically stable impedance/admittance transformation. To improve accuracy and efficiency of this approach, edge conditions are examined and the best edge position relative to the ...

Shrinking microwave filters

IEEE Microwave Magazine, 2008
An adaptive predistortion technique has been presented and verified through the design and fabrication of practical filters in both the C and Ku bands. The method allows the realization of microwave filters at a lower cost, lighter mass, smaller volume, and better performance with minimum insertion loss penalties. The concept of lossy filters has been ...

Synthesis of microwave filters with “reactive” nodes

2012 42nd European Microwave Conference, 2012
This paper introduces the synthesis of microwave inline filters of narrow or moderate bandwidth which include, in addition to the cavities, “reactive nodes”, which can be implemented either by lumped components or by non-resonating, open or short circuited stubs.

Microwave photonic filters

2010 Photonics Global Conference, 2010
Photonic signal processing offers the prospect of realising extremely high multi-GHz sampling frequencies, overcoming inherent electronic limitations. This stems from the intrinsic excellent delay properties of optical delay lines. These processors provide new capabilities for realising high time-bandwidth operation and high-resolution performance.

Photonic Microwave Filters

2006 International Conference on Microwaves, Radar & Wireless Communications, 2006
Novel photonic microwave filters based on time delay introduced by a dispersive media are presented. This is followed by description and analysis of issues concerning microwave filters theory, architecture, tuning, reconfiguration and processes of obtaining negative taps.

Harmonic distortion in microwave photonic filters

open access: yesOptics Express, 2012
We present a theoretical and experimental analysis of nonlinear microwave photonic filters. Far from the conventional condition of low modulation index commonly used to neglect high-order terms, we have analyzed the harmonic distortion involved in microwave photonic structures with periodic and non-periodic frequency responses.
