Assimilation of data from the MWHS‐II onboard the first early morning satellite FY‐3E into the CMA global 4D‐Var system

open access: yesMeteorological Applications, Volume 30, Issue 3, May/June 2023., 2023
The MWHS‐II onboard FY‐3E, the first early morning satellite in‐orbit running no more than 8 months, is evaluated in the CMA operational global numerical weather prediction system. Its observations improve global observation coverage over a 3‐h time period.

Spatial Resolution and Data Integrity Enhancement of Microwave Radiometer Measurements Using Total Variation Deconvolution and Bilateral Fusion Technique

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2022
Passive multi-frequency microwave sensors are indispensable instruments for worldwide environmental monitoring. However, they often suffer from the issues of poor spatial resolution and the original land–sea transition zone data are contaminated severely.

Liquid water path retrieval using the lowest frequency channels of Fengyun-3C Microwave Radiation Imager (MWRI)

open access: yesJournal of Meteorological Research, 2017
The Microwave Radiation Imager (MWRI) on board Chinese Fengyun-3 (FY-3) satellites provides measurements at 10.65, 18.7, 23.8, 36.5, and 89.0 GHz with both horizontal and vertical polarization channels. Brightness temperature measurements of those channels with their central frequencies higher than 19 GHz from satellite-based microwave imager ...

Understanding the polarization signal of spherical particles for microwave limb radiances [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This paper presents a simple conceptual model to explain that even spherical scatterers lead to a polarization difference signal for microwave limb radiances.

Satellite‐Based Assessment of Various Cloud Microphysics Schemes in Simulating Typhoon Hydrometeors

open access: yesAdvances in Meteorology, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
The accurate simulation of typhoon hydrometeors remains a challenge. This study attempts to evaluate the performances of five microphysics schemes (MPSs) in the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model in simulating the supertyphoon Neoguri in July 2014.

Observation of Cosmic Microwave Background Polarization with BICEP [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Background Imaging of Cosmic Extragalactic Polarization (BICEP) is a bolometric polarimeter that has been optimized to target the B-mode of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) polarization at degree angular scales, which is a sensitive probe of the ...
