The EUMETSAT sea ice concentration climate data record [PDF]
An Arctic and Antarctic sea ice area and extent dataset has been generated by EUMETSAT's Ocean and Sea Ice Satellite Application Facility (OSISAF) using the record of microwave radiometer data from NASA's Nimbus 7 Scanning Multichannel Microwave ...

Abstract Fundamental questions remain about where and when convection will occur within African easterly waves. In this study, we aim to better understand the dynamical processes that govern moist convective organization at the meso‐alpha scale in tropical easterly waves using NASA airborne field campaigns and satellite observations.

Abstract Uncertainty in anthropogenic forcing driven by aerosol‐cloud interactions (aci) limits our ability to infer the sensitivity of the Earth system to forcing from historical records. The driver of aci is the change in cloud droplet number concentration (Nd) due to changes in aerosol serving as cloud condensation nuclei (CCN).

ADC Performance in Microwave Radiometer
The configuration of a microwave switched radiometer is considered. The grounds that guide developers in determining the requirements for the ADC sampling rate are analyzed. It is shown that the ADC rate can be significantly reduced if an additional analog integrator is installed at the ADC input. Statistical modeling of such a circuit has been carried

A Novel Approach to Enhancing Spatial Resolution in Submillimeter‐Wave Ice Cloud Parameter Retrieval
This study summarizes research that we reduce the impact of ice cloud horizontal heterogeneity in sensor footprint on retrieval. Specifically, we have mitigated the impact of the ice cloud plane parallelism assumption by improving the retrieval resolution.

An integrated approach toward the incorporation of clouds in the temperature retrievals from microwave measurements [PDF]
In this paper, we address the characterization of clouds and its inclusion in microwave retrievals in order to study its effect on tropospheric temperature profiles measured by TEMPERA radiometer.

Abstract Freshwater estuaries are natural contributors to the carbon cycle, including production and emission of methane (CH4), a potent greenhouse gas (GHG); however, estimates of their contribution to global GHG emissions is uncertain. Recent research has identified the potential for quantifying limnetic methane using optical remote sensing coupled ...

Use of Radiative Transfer Model for Inter-Satellite Microwave Radiometer Calibration
This paper describes the benefits of using a microwave radiative transfer model (RTM) to improve the inter-satellite radiometric calibration (XCAL) between two independent satellite microwave radiometers.

Weather prediction and climate models need to simulate clouds of a variety of types. Here we evaluate how well a near‐operational version of such a model simulates clouds in the northeastern Pacific Ocean region. Aspects of the model, including the vertical and horizontal grid spacing and internal formulation, affect the results, and the model errors ...

Abstract This study presents a proof of concept for a storm Detection, Delineation, and Tracking (DDT) method based on the vertical integral of condensed water and ice content—namely the Ice Water Path (IWP). Traditional DDT methods rely solely on regularly sampled variables, such as brightness temperatures, which do not directly capture storm ...
